NEW PRODUCT TRENDS: BAKED FOODS Twinkies take market by storm Buoyed by an aggressive marketing campaign that included a Twinkies food truck, “I saved the Twinkie” buttons and an expansive social media presence, snack cakes from Hostess Brands, LLC took the industry by storm the week of July 15-19, as consumers snatched up Twinkies, Ho Hos and CupCakes in record numbers. According to the Kansas City-based snack cake maker, sales during the first few days back on the market after an eight-month hiatus were seven times greater than historic levels and orders were three to six times greater than production capacity, which had been running at maximum levels. The company said it was informed by numerous retailers that products sold out within hours of the snack cakes being displayed.
