Industry Activities  Gonnella offering scholarship to attend AIB CHICAGO — Gonnella Frozen Products, L.L.C., a part of the Gonnella Baking Co., said it is offering a “Rising to the Top” scholarship as part of its year-long celebration in honor of its 125th anniversary. The scholarship, valued at $18,000, includes a tuition scholarship plus room and board for one qualified baker to attend and complete the American Institute of Baking Science and Technology Resident Course in Manhattan, Kas., next year. “After 125 years of building our business, we want to give back to the baking industry, which has given Gonnella so much over the years,” said Meg McDonnell, vice-president of sales at Gonnella. AIB’s 16-week program provides students with nearly 600 hours of coursework in subjects ranging from bread and roll production to production/operations management. “Gonnella’s commitment to quality is an important part of our success,” Ms. McDonnell said. “We hope aspiring bakers who share our commitment to quality apply for this great opportunity to advance their baking skills.” Potential applicants must have earned their high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate in order to be considered while meeting the following requirements: • Completed two years of professional baking experience in a commercial operation; • Have earned AIB Certified Baker status; • Received an overall score of 70% or higher in AIB’s Science of Baking; • Submitted a completed application form along with resume, transcripts, and two letters of recommendation. Applications are due by Sept. 1, and the winner will be selected by the AIB. Gonnella and the AIB will announce a winner later this year.
