C.J. Fraleigh resigns as c.e.o. of Sara Lee North America
DOWNERS GROVE, ILL. — Christopher J. Fraleigh, chief executive officer of North America for Sara Lee Corp., has resigned from the company to pursue other opportunities. Marcel Smits, c.e.o. of Sara Lee Corp., will assume responsibilities for leading the North American business, and Mr. Fraleigh will assist during the transition. “C.J. played an important Fraleigh role in taking the North American business to this stage in its development,” said Jan Bennink, executive chairman of the board of Sara Lee Corp. “We now believe that a different approach is needed to transition the North American business into a pure-play company.” Mr. Smits joined Sara Lee as chief financial officer in October 2009 and was named c.e.o. in January 2011. Mr. Fraleigh joined Sara Lee in 2004 as chief customer and marketing officer. He joined the company from General Motors, where he had been executive director of advertising and marketing for the GMCBuick-Pontiac division. Only a few months after joining Sara Lee, Mr. Fraleigh was promoted to lead the North American Retail division of the company. This assignment included responsibility for the North American Fresh Bakery business. Sara Lee in November 2010 announced plans to sell this business to Grupo Bimbo S.A.B. de C.V. Completion of the transaction is expected shortly. Two months later, Sara Lee announced its intention to split into two separate publicly-held companies. MBN

ADM names president for South America
DECATUR, ILL. — Valmor Schaffer has been named president, ADM South America, while John Grossman has been appointed vice-president, South American Oilseeds, Decaturbased Archer Daniels Midland Co. said Sept. 13. Mr. Schaffer will coordinate growth activity across all ADM business lines in the region and manage ADM’s oilseed business in Brazil. He joined ADM’s Brazilian grain origination operations in 1999 and was president, ADM Paraguay, and subsequently was general manager of the ADM-SAO joint venture in Bolivia, which included oversight of operations in Peru and Colombia. Mr. Grossman will lead ADM’s South American oilseeds business, excluding operations in Brazil. He will report to Mr. Schaffer. Mr. Grossman joined ADM in 1998 and has held various positions in ADM’s North and South American Oilseeds processing operations. Most recently he was president, ADM Paraguay. An agronomist, Mr. Grossman received a master’s degree in business administration from the Brazilian university Fundacao Getulio Vargas. MBN

Enreco promotes three to director positions
NEWTON, WIS. — Kevin Blackburn has been promoted to director of operations at Enreco, Inc. while Daniel Otte has been promoted to director of quality assurance and Ada Alcantar has been promoted to director of business administration at the company’s Newton flaxseed flour and supplements manufacturing operation. Mr. Blackburn will be responsible for plant facilities and all aspects of manufacturing, including ingredient storage, handling, milling, packaging and shipping. He previously was in a leadership position with the company’s Omega Fields retail products operation. Mr. Blackburn received a bachelor’s of arts degree in

business administration from Ripon College in Ripon, Wis. Mr. Otte will focus on safety and quality assurance programs, including SQF Level-3, organic and kosher. He previously was purchasing department and quality manager. Mr. Otte received a bachelor’s degree in industrial management. Ms. Alcantar will be responsible for all facets of accounting, inventory control, feed license registration and purchasing of manufacturing ingredients, packaging materials, and facility supplies. She most recently was accounting manager. Ms. Alcantar received a bachelor’s degree in business information systems. MBN

uy Rogers earned the nickname “Boots” while in the Army. He once wrote a girlfriend about spending long hours polishing his boots–even though he served as a baking school instructor. After baking and decorating cakes in Viet Nam, “Boots” spent 16 months at Fort Bragg where a bakery was created for him, then closed after he left. Guy says his greatest accomplishment is “doing what my father and grandfather did for a living, and doing it well.” His greatest challenge is to always keep standards and quality at the same high level.
