Corn and wheat stocks
smaller than expected
WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Agriculture on Sept.
28 estimated stocks of wheat in all
positions on Sept. 1, 2012, at 2,104
million bus, down 2% from a year
earlier. The average of pre-report
trade estimates was 2,281 million
bus. The June-August 2012 indicated wheat disappearance was 908
million bus, up 27% from the same
quarter in 2011. Sept. 1 old crop corn
stocks were estimated at 988 million
bus, down 12% from 2011. Pre-report
trade estimates averaged 1,126 million bus. The U.S.D.A. estimated the
June-August corn disappearance at
2.16 billion bus compared with 2.54

NEW YORK — Hostess Brands, Inc. on
Sept. 20 ﬁled a motion in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court Southern District of New
York seeking court approval to impose
a new collective bargaining agreement
on the Bakery,
Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and
Grain Millers International Union.
The ﬁling comes
after 92% of the
union’s members
voted against accepting Hostess’ labor
contract.
A hearing on the motion is scheduled for Oct. 3.
Meanwhile, Hostess’ other large
union, the International Brotherhood
of Teamsters, on Sept. 14 said its members narrowly approved the contract

modiﬁcations with 2,357 voting to
approve and 2,043 voting to reject.
Ballots were mailed out on Aug. 25.
In its Sept. 20 ﬁling, Hostess said that
immediately after agreeing to solicit
a vote on its proposal, leadership
of the B.C.T.G.M.
“began aggressively lobbying the local leadership and
the membership to
reject it.”
“Mischaracterizing the proposal and
promising — without any evidence —
that a buyer was waiting in the wings to
purchase some or all of the debtors’ bakeries as going concerns, the B.C.T.G.M.
leadership succeeded in convincing

Flowers Foods establishes chief
risk ofﬁcer position
THOMASVILLE, GA. — Craig S. Parr
has been named to the newly created position of senior vice-president of ﬁnance
and chief risk ofﬁcer at Flowers Foods,
Inc. His responsibilities will include commodity hedging and purchasing strategies. No further changes were made
to the purchasing department, which
will report to Mr. Parr. Mr. Parr will report to R. Steve Kinsey, executive vicepresident and chief ﬁnancial ofﬁcer.

Prior to joining Flowers Foods Mr.
Parr spent 20 years at The Andersons,
Inc., most recently as vice-president of
risk management and food ingredient
supply. During his time at The Andersons he was promoted to progressive
leadership positions in accounting, purchasing, treasury and risk management.
