Corn, soybean and spring wheat
acreage larger than in 2012

new crop soybean futures prices still
declined about 10@15c a bu after the
report, following corn demand.
Durum seeded area was estimated
at 1,538,000 acres, down 213,000
acres, or 12%, from March intentions
of 1,751,000 acres, and down 585,000
acres, or 28%, from 2,123,000 acres
in 2012. Durum harvested area was
forecast at 1,502,000 acres, down
600,000 acres, or 29%, from 2,102,000
acres in 2012.
Area seeded to spring wheat
other than durum was estimated
at 12,295,000 acres, down 406,000
acres, or 3%, from March intentions
of 12,701,000 acres, but up 6,000
acres from 12,289,000 acres in 2012.
Harvested area was forecast at
11,958,000 acres, down 97,000 acres,
or 1%, from 12,055,000 acres in 2012.
Total hard red spring wheat planted
area was estimated at 11.7 million
acres, the U.S.D.A. said.
Winter wheat planted area was
estimated at 42,697,000 acres, up
1,373,000 acres, or 3%, from 41,324,000
acres a year ago. Harvested area was

forecast at 32,270,000 acres, down
439,000 acres, or 1%, from 32,709,000
acres in the June Crop Production
report and down 2,564,000 acres, or
7%, from 34,834,000 acres in 2012.

WASHINGTON — The National Agricultural Statistics Service of the U.S.
Department of Agriculture on June
28 estimated June 1 wheat stocks in
all positions, comprising the carryin supply for the 2013-14 crop year,
at 718,340,000 bus, down 24,280,000
bus, or 3%, from 742,620,000 bus in
2012. The estimate fell below the average of pre-report trade estimates at
750 million bus and compared with
the U.S.D.A.’s previous estimate of
746 million bus as contained in the
most recent World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates report
issued on June 12. The June 1, 2013,
wheat inventory was the smallest
since 657 million bus in 2009 and
compared with recent five-year average June 1 supply at 709 million bus.

U.S.D.A. planting estimates for
spring wheat and all-wheat were
above trade expectations, but the
durum number was below average
expectations.
Area planted to grain sorghum
was estimated at 7,195,000 acres, up
15% from 6,244,000 acres in 2012,
while harvested area was forecast at
6,085,000 acres, up 23% from 4,955,000
acres last year.
Oats planted area was estimated at
3,026,000 acres, up 10% from 2,760,000
acres in 2012 but still the third-lowest
planted area on record. Harvested area
was forecast at 1,196,000 acres, up 14%
from 1,045,000 acres in 2012 and also
the third lowest on record if realized.
Rice planted area was estimated
at 2,470,000 acres, down 8% from
2,699,000 acres in 2012, with harvested
area forecast at 2,449,000 acres, down
9% from 2,678,000 acres last year.
Area planted to peanuts in 2013 was
estimated at 1,097,000 acres, down
33% from 1,638,000 acres in 2012, with
harvested area forecast at 1,063,000
acres, down 34% from 1,608,000 acres
in 2012.
Sugar beet planted area was
estimated at 1,207,600 acres, down
2% from 1,230,100 acres in 2012, with
harvested area forecast at 1,182,700
acres, down 2% from 1,204,200 acres

marketing year, at 516,490,000 bus,
up 59,765,000 bus, or 13%, from
456,725,000 bus during the same
span of 2012. Wheat disappearance
in the entire 2012-13 marketing year
was estimated at 2,293,397,000 bus,
up 174,424,000 bus, or 8%, from
2,118,973,000 bus in 2011-12.
Seventeen per cent of the nation’s June 1, 2013, wheat supply, or
120,150,000 bus, was held on farms
compared with 112,030,000 bus, or
15% of the nation’s wheat supply, a
year earlier.
The largest regional wheat inventory on June 1 was held in the southwestern states of Kansas, Oklahoma,
Texas, Colorado and Nebraska. Wheat
stocks there aggregated 296,402,000
bus, or 41% of the nation’s wheat supply. This year’s June 1 southwestern
wheat supply was 30,475,000 bus, or
11%, larger than the 265,927,000 bus
of wheat in storage in the region a
