July 9 laid out plans to mandate labeling of trans fatty
acids in foods by Jan. 1, 2006.
Facing a deteriorating financial situation and tumbling
product sales, significant
change is required at Interstate Bakeries Corp., according to James R. Elsesser, chief

George Garfield Barber, former

1924 to 1928 and president

Baking Co. from 1930 until his
retirement in 1933, died July
10 in New York. He was 80.

A tragic echo of the Boston
night club conflagration last
winter was revealed July 17
by the death of Mrs. Fred
L. Cobb, wife of the widely
known baker of Green Bay,
Wis. Mrs. Cobb had been in
failing health since the loss
of her son, the family’s only
child, in the Boston fire.

Mrs. Rosa Sosland, the
widow of Henry Sosland and
the mother of the editors and
publishers of The Southwestern Miller, passed away July
22 in her home in Kansas
City. Born in 1863 in Russia, near Vilna, Mrs. Sosland
came to Kansas City in 1893
and had resided here since.
She was the mother of eight
sons and one daughter, who
survive her. Five of her sons,
including Benjamin Sosland,
are associated with this publication and its subsidiary
