launch, a new line of Sara Lee
Bakery fresh bread, including
the company's low-carbohydrate Delightful varieties, has
exceeded company expectations, eclipsing the highly successful October 2002 debut of
its Sara Lee brand fresh bread.

Evincing a highly co-operative
spirit, the War Food Administration and other governmental agencies in Washington
are endeavoring to assist the
milling industry of the United
States to step up flour production and to maintain capacity

of operations in order to fill
government's extraordinary
flour requirements.
Because of the critical livestock feed situation, Philip
W. Pillsbury, president of
Pillsbury Flour Mills Co.,
announced he will personally
direct operations of Pillsbury
Feed Mills Division following
the resignation of Robert P.
O'Brien, head of the division
for the past two years, to enter military service.
"Victories on the military
front are likely to increase
rather than diminish pressure
on food supplies," M. Lee
Marshall, new director of the
Office of Distribution of the
War Food Administration,
said in Chicago Jan. 24 in addressing the National American Wholesale Grocers' Association at the Drake Hotel.
"Almost beyond belief is the
position that wheat is coming to hold. As the result of
heavy feeding of this grain to
livestock and of its use in the
production of alcohol, wheat
is moving rapidly from a surplus to a deficit situation."

In bulletins issued by the
American Bakers' Association
and the Millers' National Federation, disclosure was made
that the American Bakers'
Association has withdrawn
from joint sponsorship of the
miller-baker flour contract.
The Federal Trade Commission announced Jan. 31 that
the Kilpatrick Bakeries have
entered into stipulations with
the commission to cease and
desist from certain representations in connection with the
sale of "Roman Meal Bread."
The Pillsbury Flour Mills Co. is
manufacturing two dehydrated
products for use by the armed
forces. One is a dehydrated
green pea soup mix and the
other is Pillsbury's pre-mixed
