ADM completes Beech Grove mill
expansion to 28,000 cwts per day
BEECH GROVE, IND. - ADM Milling, a wholly owned subsidiary of
Archer Daniels Midland Co., on July
9 celebrated the completion of a substantial expansion at its wheat processing plant in Beech Grove, a suburb
of Indianapolis.
"Our customers continue to grow,
and it is our job to support them in
that growth," said Mark Kolkhorst,
president of ADM Milling. "This new
capacity will allow us to expand without sacrificing the service and quality

that our customers throughout the region have come to expect."
With the expansion, the Beech
Grove wheat milling facility is now
the third largest in the nation with
capacity of 28,000 cwts per day, up
45% from previous capacity of 19,400
cwts. The nation's largest mills are the
North Dakota Mill & Elevator Association facility in Grand Forks, N.D.,
(33,000 cwts) and Kraft Foods' Toledo,
Ohio, mill (31,000 cwts), according
to the Grain & Milling Annual 2013

CSM Bakery expanding in Utah
with new cookie manufacturing line
SALT LAKE CITY - CSM Bakery
plans to expand its facility in Pleasant
View, Utah, adding a new cookie line
this year and doubling the facility's
size over the next six years. Approximately 100 new jobs will be created as
part of the expansion, the company
said.
Headquartered in Tucker, Ga., CSM
Bakery operates 11 manufacturing

facilities and 2 research and development centers. CSM produces a variety of cakes, cookies, brownies, muffins, bakery mixes, icings, toppings,
fruit and crème fillings and laminated
dough and pastries. CSM sells goods
in different formats, including finished goods, ready-to-bake and baking components. Major customers include grocers, food retailers, bakeries

Frozen baked foods maker begins
major plant expansion project
DE SOTO, KAS. - Custom Foods, Inc.
broke ground July 7 on a construction
project that is expected to more than
double the company's existing footprint and production at its De Soto
frozen foods plant.
"This is something that has been in
the planning for the past two years or
more," said John Khoury, president
and co-owner of Custom Foods. "It's
exciting to get this rolling. Everything
is coming together."

When the 27,000-square-foot project
is complete - which should be before the end of 2014, Mr. Khoury said
- Custom Foods will have more than
three times the capacity when new
equipment is installed. The current
building covers 20,000 square feet.
"That's just the initial phase," Mr.
Khoury said. "The footprint of the plant
we're designing is going to be able to

With eight new fast load-out bins,
total flour load-out capacity has been
increased by nearly 100%, ADM said,
and the addition also includes more
than 31,000 cwts of new flour storage.
Products at Beech Grove span a
wide variety including spring, winter
and hard soft wheat flour blends. The
facility serves customers primarily in
Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio.
The Beech Grove mill was built in
the late 1980s but has roots dating
back nearly 200 years, or when a grist
mill was built on Washington Street
in Indianapolis in 1821. While rebuilt,
renamed and sold multiple times, the
business remained on Washington
Street until the property was bought
by the city in 1988. That same year,
ADM Milling began construction on
a new mill in Beech Grove, an Indianapolis suburb.
The mill originally was built with
daily capacity of 15,000 cwts, but small
projects over the years raised Beech
Grove capacity to its pre-expansion
size of 19,400 cwts. The capacity upgrade is the first significant expansion
since the mill was built. MBN

As part of a contract with CSM
Bakery, the board of directors of the
Utah Governor's Office of Economic
Development has approved up to a
maximum tax credit of $313,524 in the
form of a post-performance Economic
Development Tax Increment Finance
(EDTIF) incentive, which is 20% of the
new state taxes CSM Bakery will pay
over the six-year life of the agreement.
Each year as CSM Bakery meets the
criteria in its contract with the state,
it will earn a portion of the total tax

The event was attended by local
and state officials, including Kansas
Governor Sam Brownback, whose
remarks focused on the jobs the expansion will bring with it, thanking Mr. Khoury and Custom Foods
founder and chief executive officer
