foods declines

Of all the wheat classes,
soft red winter wheat has
seen the largest drop in
exports compared with
a year ago. Exports and
undelivered sales of soft
red winter thus far in
2014-15 totaled 113.3
million bus, down 53%
from the same date in
2013-14. The export
forecast for soft red this
year is 155 million bus.

McKee launches Little
Debbie pound cake slices

WASHINGTON - The Consumer Price Index for baked
foods and cereal products fell
0.4% in November, one month
after rising 0.2%, according to the
Bureau of Labor Statistics of the
U.S. Department of Labor. The
index for all food at home fell for
the first time since June, easing
0.2%. Of the 18 items followed by
Milling & Baking News, 12 posted
month-over-month declines, 5
finished higher and 1 was unchanged. The November index
for Cereals and Bakery Products
before seasonal adjustment was
270.3% of the 1982-84 average,
up 0.2% from a year ago. For all
food at home, the November
index was 241.6, up 3.3% from
November 2013. The November
index for bread was 176, up 0.2%
from October but down 0.4%
from November 2013. Under
this heading, the C.P.I. for white
bread was 318, down 0.2% from
October and down 1.5% from
November 2013. For bread other
than white, the index was 340,
up 0.1% from October but down
0.1% from a year ago.

Bread prices moving in
opposite directions
WASHINGTON - The average price paid for white pan
bread rose in November while
the price for whole wheat bread
fell, according to the latest data
from the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department
of Labor. The national average retail price of white pan
bread was 142c, up 0.6c per lb
from October and up 3.8c from
November 2013. At 192.5c per
lb, the national average price
for whole wheat bread was
down 8c per lb from October
and down 12.4c per lb from
November 2013. At 192.5c per
lb, it was the lowest monthly
price since it was also 192.5c in
December 2012. The national
average price of family flour
in November was 51.5c per lb,
up 1.4c from October but down
0.2c from November 2013.

John Cahill to lead
Kraft Foods Group
NORTHFIELD, ILL. - John
Cahill has been named chief
executive officer of the Kraft
Foods Group, replacing Tony
Vernon, who is retiring at
the end of the year. Mr. Cahill is currently chairman
of the board of Kraft Foods.
The company said Mr. Vernon will stay on as a senior
adviser through March 31,
2015, and as a director until
the company's next annual
meeting in 2015. Mr. Cahill
came to Kraft in 2012 from
private equity firm Ripplewood Holdings, where he
was industrial partner from
2008 to 2011. In that role, he
led the firm's investments in
various companies, primarily in the consumer products
sector. Mr. Vernon has served
as c.e.o. since the company's
spin-off from Mondel z International in October 2012. Prior to that, he was the company's executive vice-president
and president of Kraft Foods
