With sequential improvement,
Kellogg sees progress at Kashi
BATTLE CREEK, MICH. - The leadership team in charge of the Kashi
business of The Kellogg Co. is working hard to build a pipeline of ideas
to get back ahead in terms of a foodfocused mission-based operation.
Paul Norman, president of Kellogg
North America, said during a May
5 conference call with analysts that
the company has seen sequential improvement in the Kashi business over
the past 15 to 18 months. Specifically,
the company has seen better performance in its cereal business.
Mr. Norman said new Kashi and
Bear Naked cereals recently launched,
and Kashi Savory Bars will hit the market at the end of the second quarter. The
company also will debut Bear Naked
granola bites during the second and
third quarters, and has a new range
of Kashi GoLean and Kashi branded

protein powders that are shipping now.
He said the Bear Naked granola business is growing at a solid mid-single to
high-single digit rate,
while Kashi fruit snacks
are growing at a strong
double-digit rate.
"There's been a lot of
reinvestment in food
to renovate," Mr. Norman said. "And now a
lot of innovation about
to come, which gives
us the confidence that
we're going to get this
business back to growth
over the coming months in
2016 and into 2017."

Rich Products donating $250,000
toward Cornell food safety lab
BUFFALO, N.Y. - Rich Products
Corp., through its Rich Family Foundation, has pledged $250,000 toward the
1,396-square-foot Rich's Food Safety Lab,
located on the campus of Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. The laboratory is
home to unique molecular biology and
classical microbiology technology and
processes that address food safety issues
along the entire supply chain and will be
used by a number of different faculty and
research groups. The laboratory has been
designed to facilitate collaborative efforts
among researchers from all areas of the
university's Department of Food Science.

"The Rich's Food Safety Lab is a stateof-the-art platform to support groundbreaking food safety research at Cornell
University," said Bob Rich
Jr., chairman of Rich Family
Foundation and Rich Products Corp. "In addition, the
lab will serve as a training
facility for the next generation of highly qualified food safety professionals, who will lead our industry, share
their expertise and collaborate with manufacturers such as Rich's and also with our
customers, to protect the safety and availability of the global food supply."

Otis Spunkmeyer begins roll-out of
branded line of products at retail
LOS ANGELES - The retail roll-out of
Otis Spunkmeyer sweet goods is officially under way, as the company has introduced a new line of 20 pre-packaged
products. The new consumer-focused
retail line, which features a "No Funky
Stuff" tag line, includes snack cakes, loaf
cakes, mini muffins, mini cupcakes and
cookies in a variety of classic flavors.

consumer favorite for 35 years, but until
recently have only been offered through

The "No Funky Stuff" tag line means
all foods are made without artificial flavors or colors, high-fructose corn syrup,
or partially hydrogenated oils. Additionally, all snacks are individually wrapped,
making them a fit as an on-the-go snack
option for consumers.
