ADM updates progress on energy,
water and emissions goals
CHICAGO - Archer Daniels Midland
Co. said it has made progress toward
goals the company set five years ago to
reduce its use of energy, water, emissions
and waste per unit of production, known
as intensity. The company's progress is
detailed in the 2015 Corporate Sustainability report issued on July 6.
ADM said it has reduced energy
intensity 22% since 2010, and water
intensity has declined 18% since 2008.
Both of those figures put the company
ahead of its goal of achieving a 15% reduction in each area by the years 2020
and 2018, respectively, ADM said.
Meanwhile, carbon emissions have

been cut 11% per unit of production
since 2010, putting the company on
track to reach its goal of a 15% intensity reduction by 2020. ADM also has
implemented pilot projects to capitalize on waste reduction and recycling
opportunities.
"ADM believes that successfully
feeding the world while minimizing our
impact on the planet is essential to our
goal of setting the competitive standard
in the agribusiness and food ingredient
industries," said Juan Luciano, chairman and chief executive officer.

baking plant opens in Rome
CHICAGO - East Balt Bakeries has
opened a bakery in Rome, its second facility to be opened in Italy. The
new high-speed bakery is capable of
producing a variety of sandwich carriers in both standard and artisan formats. In addition to Rome, East Balt
operates a bakery in Bomporto, Italy,
that serves quick-service restaurants

and retail customers in the region.

Non-GMO Pledge' to packaging
PORTLAND, ORE. - Bob's Red Mill
is introducing a new emblem on its
packaging to indicate its commitment to non-bioengineered ingredients. The new "Sourced Non-GMO
Pledge" emblem indicates that all ingredients sourced for a product have
been declared by their suppliers to
have been made without the use of
bioengineering.

non-G.M.O. ingredients has always been
a part of how we operate, our intent with

Bimbo Bakeries to halt operations
at baking plant in Hastings
HORSHAM, PA. - Bimbo Bakeries
USA said it will cease production at its
baking plant located at 317 S. Elm St. in
Hastings, Neb., in early September 2016.
The company will shift production to its
Bellevue, Neb.; South Sioux City, Neb.;

Sioux Falls, Neb.; and Topeka, Kas., bakeries.
B.B.U. makes bread and buns at the
plant under the Old Home brand and
employs 117 associates there. The facility
has been open since the mid-1950s, and
