Liquid egg prices were steady to
higher while dried and frozen products
prices were unchanged last week. Trading was steady with some processors
working fewer hours.
The price of liquid whole egg was
raised 8c a lb. Liquid yolk was raised
1c a lb. Liquid white, frozen and dried
products prices were left unchanged.
Traders said liquid whole egg typically
is the first product to be adjusted when
breaking egg prices are changed.
Breaking egg values were adjusted 6c
to 7c a dozen higher last week and were
up 12c to 13c from the past two weeks ago.
The sharp advances resulted from more
eggs offered into higher-priced retail channels ahead of Easter and fewer made available to breakers, trade sources said. The
gains in egg prices affected liquid products
but were expected to have minimal impact
on frozen or dried products, trade sources
said, because the amount of eggs involved
was small relative to the overall large volume used by egg processors.
The industry continued to monitor
recent outbreaks of highly pathogenic

Cocoa powder prices were unchanged
last week. Trading continued at a steady
pace as buyers completed coverage for
2017 and added to first-half 2018 coverage. Powder demand was good with
some processors noting buyers were pulling contracted material about 10% ahead
of schedule. Some processors indicated
they had limited amounts of powder to
offer or were sold out for 2017, while others still had adequate supplies.
Nearby New York cocoa bean futures
advanced to the highest levels since early
January, with prices last Monday scoring
the widest one-day percentage gain since
March 2012. Futures earlier in the month
fell to 9½-year lows. Last week's gains
mostly were the result of speculative buying as fundamental features were mixed.
Concerns about cocoa bean size and quality in top-producing West Africa provided
some fundamental support, as did increased grinding and exports from the Ivory Coast. Adding support was a forecast of
El Niño developing across West Africa in
July, which may bring dry weather. At the
same time, a global cocoa bean surplus still
was expected for the current year. MBN
