June 20 in Thomasville, Ga.,
Mr. Flowers was 85.
The Bundy Companies, a
supplier of equipment to the
baking industry, announced
it has acquired Sidney, Ohiobased Shaffer Manufacturing
Corp. from George Dunbar.
Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Inc.
is testing a line of ice cream
products, a move the company hopes will diversify its
product line.

A bill that would have allowed
labor unions to organize workplaces without secret-ballot
elections has been blocked from
consideration. The legislation,
the Employee Free Choice Act,
had been fiercely opposed by
the baking industry and the
business community.

Merger discussions between
the Independent Bakers Association and the American Bakers Association have ended. It
was disclosed that a majority of
I.B.A. baker members are opposed to further negotiations.
Heileman Baking Co., La
Crosse, Wis., has agreed to
acquire four baking plants
from American Bakeries Co.,
New York, boosting Heileman's annual sales volume
in baked foods and snacks to
more than $350 million and
ranking it as the nation's fifth
largest bread and cake baker.
ConAgra International, an
organization of ConAgra, Inc.,
companies with
international
operations,
has formed
ConAgra Grain
Companies,
Minneapolis, to
Racciatti
combine all the
grain trading
businesses. Thomas M. Racciatti has been named president of the newly formed unit.

Brands, Inc., the company is
introducing 18 new cookie and
cracker products, William B.
McKnight Jr., president of the
Biscuit Division of Nabisco,
said. The July products introduction will include two
entirely new lines - American
Classic and Quackers.

Paul S. Willis, president of the

Frederick W. Clifford, a
founder of the Cream of Wheat

He was 79 years of age.

been ill for a long period.

Ralph S. Headley, secretary
and manager of the National
Apple Dryers' Association, has
joined the purchasing department of General Mills, Inc. Mr.
Headley will be responsible for
the procurement of apples.
W.J. McMurray, veteran miller,
died June 20 at his home in
Canonsburg, Pa., at the age of
82. His death came almost coincidentally with the razing of
the family mill, with which he
had been associated all his life.
The George E. Gano Grain
Corp., operating the 3,300,000bus terminal elevator in
Hutchinson, Kas., and 70
country elevators in Kansas,
Colorado and Oklahoma, with
combined storage capacity of
more than 5,000,000 bus, was
sold last week to the Bunge
Corp., which is one of the largest international grain houses.
The Pittsford Flour Mills, Inc.
has been formed by Leo Zitlin
and Sidney J. Teicher and associates, to take over full ownership and operation of the 2,000cwt flour mill at Pittsford, N.Y.
