Cocoa

Dried and frozen egg product prices
were unchanged last week while liquid
whole egg and white advanced modestly
for the second consecutive week. Liquid
yolk prices were unchanged. Traders said
firmness in some liquid products indicated processors were buying liquid product
to freeze or dry rather than breaking eggs.
Trading was seasonal and mostly slow,
according to processors, and generally
was not profitable given the sustained
period of depressed prices for most egg
products because of the prolonged period of oversupply of eggs.
Large cage-free egg prices to first receivers in July averaged $1.61 a dozen
in cartons, up 1c from June, while loose
eggs averaged 85c a dozen, up 26c, the
U.S.D.A. said. Gradable nest run loose
eggs averaged 60c a dozen, down 1c
from June. Retail prices of cage-free large
white eggs averaged $2.48 a dozen in July,
down 14c from June, while large cagefree brown eggs averaged $2.65 a dozen,
down 7c. There were 14,600,000 certified
organic cage-free laying hens in July, unchanged from June, and 27,500,000 nonorganic cage-free hens, up 200,000. MBN

Egg products

Cocoa powder prices were unchanged
last week. Trading mostly was quiet as
coverage for 2017 was completed except
for some fill-in business. A few sales continued for 2018 and into 2019 within the
quoted ranges. Two major processors were
said to be well sold for 2018. Supplies of
black cocoa powder were tight while other
grades were more readily available.
Cocoa butter values rose for three
consecutive weeks through July 28 but
declined 2% in the week ended Aug. 4
to $5,396 a tonne, which was down 29%
from a year ago, according to the Cocoa
Merchants Association of America.
New York cocoa bean futures declined
last week, mainly on profit-taking as
speculators exited the nearby contract
ahead of mid-September expiration.
Three former executives of Morristown,
N.J.-based cocoa processor Transmar Commodity Group Ltd. last week were charged
with bank fraud, wire fraud and conspiracy to commit fraud. Transmar, a unit of
Transmar Group Ltd., filed for Chapter 11
bankruptcy protection in December 2016,
which was converted to Chapter 7 bankruptcy liquidation in July 2017. MBN
