a July 31 meeting before the Senate's
Commerce, Science and Transportation
Committee. They agreed to implement
the American Beverage Association's
voluntary energy drink marketing guidelines.
The Washington-based A.B.A. is a
trade association representing companies that manufacture and distribute
non-alcoholic beverages in the United
States. Under its guidelines for energy drinks, labels should identify the
quantity of caffeine from all sources
contained in the beverage, not promote mixing with alcohol and include
an advisory statement about energy
drinks not being recommended for
children, pregnant or nursing women,
and people sensitive to caffeine.
