Krut joining ‘Meat Industry Hall of Fame’
Steve Krut, retired executive director of the American Association of Meat Processors (AAMP) and Meat&Poultry contributing editor, is among this year’s Meat Industry Hall of Fame Class of 2012 inductees. Krut joined the AAMP staff as public relations director in 1974 and was named assistant executive director two years later. He was appointed executive director in 1981, a position he held for more than 25 years. Krut joined the Meat&Poultry editorial team in 2007 and since then, his “Small Business Matters” feature has been a popular inclusion in each month’s magazine. The induction ceremony for new 2012 class of MIHoF members is scheduled to take place Oct. 27 at the J.W. Marriott Hill Country near San Antonio, Texas. The dinner and presentation ceremony will be held in conjunction with the North American Meat Association (NAMA) Outlook Conference. ■

McDonald’s Australia adds lamb to menu
The United Kingdom had a lamb flatbread sandwich. Switzerland got the “McZuri”, a veal burger. Now, Australia will get a Serious Lamb Burger. Jack Link’s Beef Jerky claims to have unveiled the ultimate tribute to the year’s presidential race: mosaic portraits of Barack Obameat and Meat Romney created by San Francisco-based mosaic artist Jason Mecier from thousands of pieces of Jack Link’s Jerky. These portraits, which join Sasquatch, the brand’s icon, are in a special online election for meat-snack fans who will vote for their favorite jerky “portrait showdown. Jack Link’s Beef Jerky partnered with Mecier to create an original series of artwork using its meat snacks as the creative medium. Jack Link’s and Mecier unveiled a meathead portrait of Sasquatch — star of Jack Link’s award-winning Messin’ With Sasquatch advertising campaign — earlier this year. Each portrait took almost 50 hours and 50 bags of Jack Link’s Jerky to create as Mecier hand-applied pieces of jerky to each portrait. A variety of flavors were used in creating the portraits. ■
