public health. The agency said mechanically tenderized
beef should be cooked differently than intact cuts because
of the potential for pathogens to be introduced into
the interior of these products. Mechanically tenderized
beef looks no different from other beef products, but
consumers should know that they need to handle them
differently, FSIS noted.

FOREMAN STEPS BACK INTO THE RING
First he gave us a grill named after himself; now he's
giving us something to put on the grill. George Foreman,
World Championship and Olympic gold medal boxer,
announced the launch of "George Foreman's Butcher
Shop" on May 18. George Foreman's Butcher Shop is a
direct-to-consumer purveyor of artisanal cuts of USDA
Choice and Prime meat and poultry products.
Foreman's company offers chicken, pork, burgers,
sausages and side dishes. The meats are either USDA
Choice or Prime Premium "Never Ever" Angus Beef
sourced from animals that have not been raised using
antibiotics or steroids and fed a vegetarian diet.
"My family and I love eating together; I created George
Foreman's Butcher Shop so everyone can experience

having the best meat for great, memorable family dinners,"
Foreman said. "This is quality, only the best hand-trimmed,
hand-seasoned, and hand wrapped Prime and Choice cuts

WAYNE FARMS TO EXPAND IN ALABAMA
Wayne Farms, Oakwood, Ga., announced plans to expand
the company's Dothan, Ala., poultry processing plant. The
project will double the plant's processing capacity.
Wayne Farms will add 42,000 sq. ft. to the existing
structure which covers 105,000 sq. ft. The company
expects construction to be completed by mid-2016.
Currently, 356 employees work at the Dothan plant. The
facility expansion will add 500 jobs.
"Wayne Farms is excited for the opportunity to expand
our business and bring jobs to the local area," said Clint
Rivers, COO. "With the rising demand for chicken we have
an opportunity to increase our output."
Wayne Farms acquired the Dothan plant from
Salisbury, Md.-based Perdue Farms in 2012. The deal
included the processing plant, hatchery and a feed mill
and grow-out facility in Florida.
