POLLING FOR LINKS

Leave it to Bob Evans Restaurants to find two candidates voters could get
behind. The company recently announced the winner of its 2016 Sausage
Selection Election, created by the restaurant chain to encourage consumers
to vote for their favorite sausage form - links or patties.
Links won, according to the company's national survey which revealed
that 30 states chose sausage links as the best breakfast sausage, while only
18 states - mostly in the Midwest and South - picked patties.
"Links carried the day in the Sausage Selection Election nationally this
year but, that can always change. By 2020, we might see a swing toward
patties," said John Fisher, president of Bob Evans Restaurants.
The survey also found that a clear majority of women chose links (59
percent) compared to patties (41 percent). But the preference for links was
much less among men with 52 percent preferring links over patties.
The company launched the campaign in September, which culminated in
a coupon for a free side of sausage at the Bob Evans restaurants.

BACON IS KING
When it comes to Burger King's latest
menu offering, bacon is king. The fast
food chain is introducing its Bacon
King burger, which is made of two
¼-lb. beef patties, six slices of bacon,
four slices of American cheese,
ketchup and mayonnaise on a sesame
seed bun.
"We didn't hold back with the
Bacon King sandwich," said Alex
Macedo, president North America,
Burger King Corp. "Six strips of
bacon, four slices of cheese and two
big beefy flame-grilled patties. The
Bacon King sandwich makes meat
lovers' dreams a reality."

Martha Stewart, in partnership with
Marley Spoon, a subscription meal kit
delivery service, is offering its Martha
& Marley Spoon Thanksgiving Box.
The box includes a whole 12- to 14-lb.
free-range turkey along with recipes
and ingredients including: fresh herbs,
dried cherries, mashed potatoes,
Brussels sprouts and apple pie.

Some of the meat science graduate
students at Oklahoma State Univ. take
the college's mascot, the Cowboys,
to heart. Features Editor, Bob Sims
visited the Stillwater, Oklahoma,
school's campus to attend the
American Meat Science Association's
Pork 101 class, where attendees and
participants are required to wear hard
hats on the slaughter and fabrication
floors. A couple of the students
donned hard hats in the shape of
cowboy hats, a nice touch for any
Oklahoma State faithful in need of
head protection.
The grad students commented
that they purchased the hats on
amazon.com. A quick search revealed
a few different companies including
Jackson Safety and Occunomix
that offer the style-forward head
protection in the classic good guy/bad
guy black and white.
