INDUSTRYNEWS from the Research Chefs Association 2015 RCA award winners Industry leaders recognized Kevin Anderson Chef Consultant Pioneer Award Winner Kevin Anderson, chef and consultant based in Clearwater, Fla., was presented with the RCA's 2015 Pioneer Award at the organization's annual conference in New Orleans. The award is given to individuals who have successfully combined culinary craftsmanship with food science to push the industry forward through innovation and creativity. Mr. Anderson worked for 23 years at Burger King as director of international R&D. He is credited with being among the first to develop fully prepared pouched protein entrees and eventually applied those skills to collaborate with another large restaurant group to develop a series of fully cooked entrees resulting in streamlined operations, ultimately pioneering the way most chain restaurants design their menus. In presenting the award, RCA Treasurer John Draz highlighted Mr. Anderson's further contributions to the RCA's Culinology certification program continues to grow The RCA recently welcomed 10 new Certified Culinary Scientists (CCS) and three new Certified Research Chefs (CRC) after 27 candidates took the certification exams during the RCA 2015 Annual Conference. The culinary professionals join the ranks of over 100 CRC and 206 CCS who have certified their skills and experience within the field of Culinology. The certification program is the only program that certifies the knowledge, skills and experience of Culinology professionals. According to a 2012 survey, supervisors, upper management and human resource managers of CRCs and CCSs agree that having an RCA-certified employee on staff enhances product speed to market and increases both product quality and team effectiveness. The individuals are recognized as the food industry's most valuable product developers with expertise in the practice of Culinology. He went on to serve as Regional Committee co-chair and served three terms as a member of the RCA Board of Directors. Mr. Anderson joins a prestigious group of RCA Hall of Fame members who include such industry icons as Nancy Silverton, Harold McGee, John Folse, Ferdinand Metz, Graham Kerr, Warren LeRuth and Winston Shelton. Every year, the RCA's president has the opportunity to recognize a member who demonstrates the highest level of commitment and excellence to the association. This year the award went to Dianna Fricke, director of culinary-national accounts, J.R. Simplot Company, Boise, Idaho. In presenting the award, RCA Immediate Past President Charles Hayes said Ms. Fricke's dedication to RCA was evident throughout her six years on the RCA Board of Directors and as chair of the RCA Marketing Committee. Ms. Fricke also served as board liaison to the Research Chefs Association Certification Commission and continues to support the RCA Partnership program.
