Meanwhile, Our Little Rebellion is an umbrella
brand that includes PopCorners, Protein Crisps
and Bean Crips. Innovative flavors complement
the BFY snacks such as the sweet Carnival Kettle
PopCorners, the spicy Cha-Cha Chili Bean Crisps
and even the globally inspired Wasabi Ginger with

"I think the demand for flavor, clean and transparent ingredients, and convenience are here to stay,"

GETTING THE WORD OUT
To communicate the various trending BFY attributes
of a product, companies rely on both the package
and advertising.
Ms. Finer said SkinnyPop is well known for its
"free from" list, which reassures consumers of
what's not in the products. Oatmega recently

updated its packaging to showcase differentiators
grass-fed whey and Omega-3s, as well as including visuals that correspond to the flavors to help shoppers
visualize the ingredients.
Mr. Hooker said the package design is critical because consumers are conditioned to look for specific
icons attributed to BFY snacking like Non-GMO Project
verified, certified gluten-free and certified organic.
Snyder's-Lance uses a variety of techniques to capture
shoppers' attention in-store including point of sale,
displays and packaging.
Mr. Morgan said the market will begin to see more
affordable options as companies like Our Little Rebellion scale the availability of more nutritious ingredients. He added that BFY snacks will crop up in unlikely
places beyond the grocery store and in "food deserts,"
where healthier options aren't always available. "Many
shoppers can't afford to shop in health-food markets
or rely on discount stores, which traditionally stock
high-calorie and sugar-packed snacks," Mr. Morgan
said. "There's a forward motion in the industry to make
better-for-you available to all, and we're excited to be a
part of that movement."
