with consumers who care more than ever about
transparency and health. An event that brought
together more than 150 senior executives - more
than one-third of whom were first-timers - ELF
concluded with a keynote address by Whole Foods
founder John Mackey, one of his first public appearances since the Amazon acquisition. ELF will
continue to feature a robust, business-focused educational agenda in 2018 with the annual meeting,
Sep. 27-29 in Amelia Island, FL.
Last spring, SNAC hosted the inaugural
Excellence in Sales and Marketing Seminar at St.
Joseph's University, the only college offering graduate-level degrees in food marketing. A free-formembers educational opportunity, the 2018 Sales
and Marketing Seminar will be held May 14-16 in
Philadelphia. The course has been remodeled with
specially designed breakout tracks for more intensive discussions on sales techniques and emerging
approaches to brand marketing, as well as insight
on what is driving category growth.
Also new in 2018, SNAC has revamped its technical education program, including free member
webinars and in-person workshops focused on
areas such as food labeling claims, Nutrition Facts
label changes, transparency issues, Proposition
65, frying oil management, social accountability,
sanitation, food safety and nutrition issues. SNAC
has retained Mark Nelson, consultant with MFN
FoodReg LLC, and an experienced regulatory affairs and quality assurance professional, to assist
members with their technical needs.

Bioengineered Food Disclosure Standard.
SNAC has also launched a new government
affairs committee to help guide the association's
policy decisions. In December, the committee met
in Washington, D.C., with key lawmakers on Capitol
Hill and at the US Department of Agriculture. The
2018 Legislative Summit will be held June 6-7 in
Washington, D.C., and will provide opportunities for
members to collaborate around common challenges and build relationships with legislators.
As SNAXPO18 kicks off, SNAC encourages its
members to use the many indispensable resources
that come with membership. From professional
development and sharpening marketing strategies
to technical assistance and connections with
industry partners, SNAC is committed to helping
members thrive in an industry that continues to
push its boundaries.

AMPLIFYING THE INDUSTRY'S VOICE
SNAC, in addition to equipping members with
needed resources, aims to foster member engagement in the association's advocacy efforts.
Last summer during the Legislative Summit, SNAC
facilitated more than 80 meetings with congressional offices to discuss issues such as label harmonization, freedom of choice for Supplemental
Nutrition Assistance Program participants and science-based nutrition policy.
In 2017, SNAC revitalized its SnackPAC, the official
political action committee of the snack industry, raising 50% more in member contributions than in 2016.
This allowed SNAC to amplify its members' voices
on Capitol Hill. On the morning of the Legislative
Summit, advocacy efforts paid off when the Food &
Drug Administration announced an extension of the
Nutrition Facts label compliance date, a decision that
will allow members to comply more efficiently with
