Eucalyptus panels with walnut framing define the kitchen’s aesthetic, as does a copper drum lamp suspended from a skylight above the island and “Vescovio Medallion” stonework above the range. Viking professional-grade appliances were installed throughout. Downtime in this versatile home can be spent either tuning in or tuning out, with the former option supported by plasma screen televisions throughout the house, including over the fireplace adjacent to the outer deck’s Jacuzzi, in the screening room behind a 120inch movie screen and over the first floor sports bar (where there are two). A beach cam on the roof makes it possible to view seaside goings on at any time, while control panels in virtually every room in the house allow for easy coordination of both music- and movierelated entertainment. For those in search of relaxation, the spa area on the first floor offers not only a sauna and gym, but a meditation area and his and hers massage tables. Both Griffiths and Brown are quick to point out that the ocean views found throughout the home are its greatest art pieces. The earthy yet elegant materials and fixtures used in the home’s design serve as a kind of artwork as well. Particularly noteworthy, however, is the hand-carved screen from Bali that was scribed on-site to surround the carved Italian travertine fireplace in the living room. Like much of the home’s stone, the fireplace was imported via Walker-Zanger in Sun Valley. “Starfire” and “Bronze” glass in this fireplace replaces traditional firewood for a dramatic effect.
