Internships
Designed for second-year students and typically done during
the summer between a student's first and second year, an
internship is an approved educational program that provides
students with academic credits for work done in their field of
study. Students are required to have completed a minimum
of 12 credits in their program major and have earned a 2.5
GPA or higher to participate. Internships are available on
and off campus throughout the year. Information regarding
internships may be obtained by visiting the Career Services
office in the Hartzell Building.

made to feel included, more comfortable, and have a better
understanding of what to expect during their academic
journey. Peer Mentors are accessible by other students via
email, cell phone, and campus activities/events.

College Transfer
The Career Services department assists students who are
interested in transferring to a 4-year college or university
after graduation from Thaddeus Stevens College of
Technology. The college has a number of articulation
agreements with other colleges/universities throughout
Pennsylvania. Information regarding transferring to another
institution can be obtained by visiting the Career Services
office in the Hartzell Building.

Program Specific Peer Mentors: Sophomore students
who have successfully completed the freshman year of
their technical program major are selected to mentor the
freshman class of their specific program major. Program
Specific Peer Mentors are coordinated through the ACT 101
and Community Service office.

Counseling

Professional counseling service is provided by counselors
located in the Hartzell Building. Counselors are available
on weekdays. Students are encouraged to schedule
appointments to assure counselor availability. Generally,
counselors provide personal and academic counseling as
well as referral and coordination with community-based
providers as needed. Examples of concerns for which
students seek counseling are depression, stress, anxiety,
family and relationship difficulties, poor study skills, poor
academic performance, disabilities, and uncertainty
regarding career choice.
Counseling services are provided at no additional cost
to the student and are offered in a confidential setting
where students may freely discuss any concerns. When
appropriate, counselors may refer students to communitybased providers.

Mentoring

As part of the college's Network of Student Support, the
overarching concept of our Mentoring Program at Thaddeus
Stevens College of Technology provides students with an
opportunity to connect with other students, faculty, and
industry representatives in a more in-depth, safe way to
enhance the college experience and drastically increase the
retention and academic success of our students.
Each Mentoring Program below has one common outcome:
To improve recruiting, retention and graduation rates. They
are designed to work independently, but in concert with each

Pre-major Mentors: Freshman students who have
successfully completed the Premajor program and are
now in the freshman year of their technical program major
are selected to mentor incoming Premajor students. Premajor Mentors are coordinated through the Academic
Success office.

2. Industry Mentoring (group mentoring)
The Industry Mentor program will provide another outlet
for students to connect with a professional in their field
of study; someone to encourage and push them to see
the correlation between success in the classroom and
success out in industry thus increasing retention of those
students who may be on the cusp. Via shop visits, virtual
connection (Skype, Google, Email correspondence...), mock
interviews, Industry Mentors will be a bridge from the
classroom to the "real world" answering questions students
have about expectations out in industry and providing a
link to other industry leaders for job shadows, internships,
further education/apprenticeships... Industry Mentors are
coordinated through the Career Services office.
3.Women's Mentoring (one-on-one mentoring)
Women's Mentors are coordinated through the Women's
Center.
4.NSF Grant Specialized Mentoring (group mentoring)
The NSF/ATE grant seeks to improve retention by increasing
female students' sense of belonging in STEM and at Stevens
College through informal group mentoring discussions
utilizing female industry role models. This mentoring is
open to all students of Thaddeus Stevens College. NSF
Grant Mentors are coordinated through the NSF Grant
administrators.
