Syngenta Thrive - 2Q/2013 - 7

New Research Facility Completed
The completion of the new Syngenta research facility in Research Triangle Park, N.C., means exciting new advances in increasing
crop yields. The 147,000-square-foot, $71 million facility features all-glass, climate-controlled greenhouses and precision-growth
chambers, which, borrowing from NASA technology, offer control of multiple-growth variables, including water, nutrients, light and
atmospheric gases. With a focus on improving crop yields by combating plant stresses such as drought and insect pressures, scientists
at the facility will use the chambers to isolate environmental elements and study their effects on specific agronomic traits. This
research will enable Syngenta to deliver better crops to farmers in the future, helping them grow more from less.

Product Updates

With the broadest soybean portfolio in the industry, Syngenta
offers Quilt Xcel® and Quadris Top™ SB fungicides to help
growers maximize their return on investment and their crop’s
true yield potential. In addition to broad-spectrum disease
control, both fungicides help enhance a soybean plant’s
physiological responses to in-season stress, leading to
improved plant growth. With an application of Quilt Xcel or
Quadris Top SB, soybeans exhibit more vigorous roots with
improved water and nutrient translocation. In addition, reduced
transpiration allows soybeans to maintain yield potential despite
periods of low moisture and high temperatures. The fungicides
also increase bean size and the number of beans per pod by
preserving green leaf area. This allows plants to use the sun’s
energy longer, thus enhancing pod development.
The results of two 2012 trials in ohio show soybeans
treated with a tank mix of Quilt Xcel and Endigo® ZC insecticide

had an average yield increase of 17.8 bushels per acre over the
untreated check because of their outstanding disease and insect
control. To further enhance yield potential, Quilt Xcel provides
broad-spectrum control of foliar disease with both preventive and
curative modes of action. The xylem-systemic mobility of the two
active ingredients provides disease protection throughout the
entire plant.
Quadris Top SB, also a combination of two active
ingredients, delivers preventive and curative disease control,
especially against certain fungicide-resistant strains of frogeye
leaf spot—a significant threat in Southern geographies. By
helping soybeans better withstand late-season stress and
disease pressure, Quadris Top SB has shown increased yields
by an average of 4 to 8 bushels per acre and performed better
than straight strobilurin chemistries.
Growers can use Quilt Xcel and Quadris Top SB to push
the yield ceiling this growing season. Learn how to grow more
