Grace Pacific Corporation History/Background: Grace Pacific Corporation says, “Our mission is to be our existing and potential customers’ supplier of choice. In doing so we will provide quality products and services meeting customer expectations at all times; a safe working environment; continuous improvements; and operations that meet the needs and desires of the communities where we operate.” Additionally, Grace Pacific Corporation sees itself as having an obligation to its community and the future. The company is in a unique position to ensure that Hawaii has adequate resources – including energy – in the future, so that our economy may flourish. Responsible management of resources allows us to manage this future in a way no other entity can. To this end, Grace Pacific merged with Mid-Pac Petroleum in 2011, and partnered with another paving company to establish Asphalt Hawaii, a large-scale asphalt storage facility at Kalaeloa Harbor, to ensure that shortages would not again shut down construction in our state. John and Walter Grace founded the company in 1931, providing specialized equipment and materials to Hawaii’s construction industry. The company continues to grow and currently represents more than 50 agricultural, construction and industrial equipment manufacturers, distributing its products throughout the Pacific. Barking Sands on Kauai early in 2011, the focus of the firm’s projects shifted to Oahu. Over the last two years, the City & County of Honolulu has ordered rehabilitation of many secondary and residential streets in Oahu’s neighborhoods. Under these contracts, GP has repaved roadways in Kapolei, Pearl City, Manoa, Moanalua, Aiea, Makiki, Kahala, and more. Grace Pacific also provided paving for the Urban Core project in Kapolei, as well as runway upgrades at Wheeler Air Force Base, and Honolulu International Airport. Recently completed was the paving work for Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa, along with the major roads in the Ko Olina area. Recent paving on Ala Moana Boulevard for the November 2011 APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) conference emphasized GP’s commitment to use the greenest technologies possible. The entire project was completed at night, reducing the impact on local residents and businesses. “In addition, we used ‘warm-mix’ asphalt – a design that uses less energy to produce. We paved Moanalua Freeway in 2004 using a technology called SMA, or stone matrix asphalt,” says David Hulihee, chief executive officer of Grace Pacific Corp. “This is an asphalt mix designed for both drivability and durability. The five miles of highway between the Aloha Stadium and Kalihi is still one of the smoothest roads in the state.” Hulihee continues: “We are also proud of our continued commitment to the community. Our annual Outstanding Keiki program continues to honor area students, and on graduation provides them the opportunity to be eligible for $20,000 in scholarships provided by Grace Pacific’s Outstanding Scholars program, through the Hawaii Community Foundation. “We have received awards and commendations from the National Asphalt Pavement Association for our asphalt plants around the State, and also the Diamond Paving Commendation for excellence in paving operations for both Oahu and Kauai AC plants.” Scope of Services: Grace Pacific Corporation is well known for delivering quality projects on time and within budget. Its specialty is asphalt paving. “We bring the most experience and innovation to the table. We are always trying to find ways to do the job better, make it last longer, and complete it in the most environmentally responsible manner,” says the company. “Our subsidiaries provide valuable services to industry as well.” GP Roadway Solutions provides safety and traffic management services with a focus on roadway safety. GPRS provides guardrail, impact attenuators, traffic management systems, and other construction related products. Thecompany also provides personal protective equipment, roadway and business signage (through Peterson Sign), as well as other services to industry through its subsidiaries, GP Maintenance Solutions and Unistrut Hawaii. GPRM Precast provides precast/ prestress concrete material to the construction industry, with great benefit to the community. Precast concrete product reduces construction time, reducing the impact on the communities in which it is used.
