Hyatt conducted a groundbreaking ceremony and Hawaiian blessing on Dec. 21 to commemorate the start of construction for its Andaz Wailea Resort and Residences on Maui. Located at the site of the longclosed former Renaissance Wailea Beach Resort and slated to open in 2013, Hawaii’s first Andaz property, will feature 255 rooms and 35 suites ranging from 456 to 2,321 squarefeet, as well as 19 villas ranging from two to five bedrooms, averaging approximately 3,500 square-feet. Amenities will include a three-meal specialty restaurant, cascading outdoor pools with adjacent bars, a signature restaurant, a 15,000-square-foot spa, gym, lobby lounge and meeting space. Swinerton Builders is the general contractor for the extensive renovation, and the project architect is WCIT Architecture. The interiors were designed by David Rockwell of Suites Renovated at Hyatt Kauai the resort is known. The suites’ design elements are reminiscent of the land and sea. They are appointed with hardwood flooring, floral rugs, and decor that echoes the multicultural influences of the island. Garden, ocean and deluxe suites range from 1,0001,800 square feet and feature a dining area with a granite-top wet bar, spacious living areas and a separate bedroom. The more than 2,400-square-foot presidential suites offer a full kitchen and dining room, a living room, entertainment area with surround sound, two bathrooms and a separate bedroom. All suites feature spacious decks, a bath with a whirlpool tub, walk-in rain style shower and double marble sink vanities. Adding to the resort’s list of environmental initiatives, the renovation also utilized low-flow toilets, low VOC paints, recycled yarn carpet and energy-saving ceiling fans. “Clean lines and crisp, fresh colors combine to create a relaxed elegance in our distinct Hawaiian classic style, making guests feel at home,” states Doug Sears, general manager. The suites were renovated between May and December 2011. Performed by dck pacific construction LLC and designed by WATG, renovations to the standard guest rooms were completed in April 2011. The newly renovated presidential suite at the Grand Hyatt Kauai The Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa recently completed renovations to its 37 suites, a project performed by general contractor Coordinated Systems Hawaii.
