NewsBeat Southland Mole JV Wins Largest Contract Winning one of the largest construction contracts ever awarded by the City and County of Honolulu, Texas-based Southland Mole JV is the general contractor for Oahu's Kaneohe-Kailua Wastewater Conveyance Tunnel project with the low bid award of $173,114,296. The project entails the construction of an approximately three-mile-long gravity sewer tunnel to carry wastewater from Kaneohe's Waste Water Pre-treatment Facility (WWPTF) to Kailua's Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). In a project by the Honolulu's Department of Environmental Services, Southland Mole will drill a 15-foot diameter tunnel into which will be installed a 10-foot diameter interior pipe-large enough to store peak wet-weather flows, which eliminates the need for aboveground sewage tanks, avoids unsightly visual impacts and prevents overflows and spills. Odor control systems will be installed at each end of the tunnel. Estimated completion date for the entire project, involving three phases, is June 2018. Subcontractors, as listed by the general contractor Southland Mole JV, include: Layne Christensen Co., Consolidated Engineering, Hawaii Engineering Group, JW Fowler, Island Hauling, Lewis Electric, Kauai Drilling & Shoring, Brierley Associates, Paul's Electrical Contracting and Harris Trucking.
