NEWSBriefs Napili Kai Beach Resort Wraps Up Upgrade Napili Kai Beach Resort on Maui has completed a $5 million renovation of its Puna Point building that is made up of oceanfront studios and one-bedroom suites with kitchens and private lanai. The Napili Bay resort comprises 163 hotel rooms, studios and one- and twobedroom suites in 11 low-rise plantation-style buildings. The Puna Point project included refurbishment to the building’s exterior, as well as upgrades of all baths and kitchens with bamboo, mahogany or cherry cabinetry, granite countertops and upscale kitchenware. Custom furnishings include rattan armchairs, marble and rattan coffee and side tables, 37-inch flat screen TVs and bambooframed art by local artists. Maui Brewing founder Garrett Marrero (second from right) brought home a gold medal in the Denver beer festival. Gold medal-winning Hawaii 90 Wee Heavy Gold for Wee Heavy Maui Brewing Co. earned a gold medal for its Hawaii 90 Wee Heavy Scotch Ale at the recent Great American Beer Festival in Denver. Wee Heavy won in the ScottishStyle Ale category. This year, 4,338 beers competed in 84 categories covering 134 styles. The winners were given gold status by the event as being “a world-class beer that accurately exemplifies the specified style, displaying the proper balance of taste, aroma and appearance.” Maui Brewing Co. founder Garrett Marrero and his wife, Melanie, operate a seven-barrel brewpub at Kahana as well as a 25-barrel production brewery and canning facility in Lahaina. JBL Expands Product Line JBL Hawaii Ltd. has added Toshiba CCTV electronic security systems and Miwa Lock products to its product line. Miwa-brand locks use RFID (radio-frequency identification) keycards which do not demagnetize and are available as key fobs and wrist bands. Aqua Skyline at Island Colony ‘New’ Aqua Skyline at Island Colony Aqua Hotels & Resorts’ Island Colony Hotel has a new look and a new name, the Aqua Skyline at Island Colony, following a $6 million renovation and upgrade last month.
