We had some great camps over Christmas and two winners in the National Barton Bantam Challenge (named after champion Greg Barton). Bantam is 10-14year olds and they had to paddle 200/300 or 400 kilometers in a six week period. We had one 11-year-old Bronze winner and one 13-year-old Gold winner. We have lots of programs and events in this next couple of months and secured a grant to take Waterman's to the less fortunate kids here in Hawaii through The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, Inc. His brother Ryan helps ensure that traditions are carried out. The first race of the day was for the kids. Next the women/mixed raced, then men's Short and Long courses took their turns racing. The entry fee was $20 and a 6-pack of your favorite beverage, which helpers chilled down in one of Lanikai's canoes.
