Na Koa Wounded Warrior Canoe Regatta www On Sunday, August 18, 2013 the annual Wounded Warrior canoe Regatta was not just an ordinary event. On that day, in the waters behind Hale Koa Hotel, teams from every military service took their races personally for pride and for bragging rights. the event’s mc, Island entertainer Kimo Kahoano, was magnificent with the Pule which blended the military Warrior spirit with our Hawaiian culture. there were emo- tional speeches given by congresswoman colleen Hanabusa and the Regatta’s Grand marshal Lt. Gen. (Ret) Hank Stackpole, who urged each team to go for the win and leave nothing behind. finally, the national Anthem and our State Anthem were beautifully sung by melody Danielson. During the day, the spectators were also mesmerized by the United States Air force Band, who had everyone dancing in the sand with their great songs. meanwhile, the event drew its biggest crowd to date, with more than 1,200 spectators on hand cheering on the teams. At the end of the day, the winners were announced: the Wounded Warrior Race was won by the Army transition Battalion; the Veterans Race was won by Mrs. Haumea Ho and Judge Ed Kubo help to give out lunches to the competitors.
