The runner-up is North America, with about 1.3M homes connected at the beginning of 2007, of which two thirds are operated by Verizon, and the rest are shared between AT&T and a growing number of IOCs, CLECs and municipalities. Several carriers around the world are leveraging their existing copper infrastructure to deliver broadband services using deep ﬁber architectures combined with the latest generation xDSL technologies. Of course, no FTTx panel would be complete without some discussion of killer applications, the role and challenges of video delivery, and the never ending debate of how much bandwidth is enough for what horizon of time. In this session, executives from major service providers will present their views on the opportunities and challenges for FTTx around the world.
