SAN FRANCISCO It is my pleasure to invite you to The Liver Meeting® — AASLD’s 59th Annual Meeting — to be held October 31– November 4 in the west coast city of San Francisco. You’ll be joining more than 7,000 hepatologists and hepatology professionals from around the world for the premier meeting in the science and practice of hepatology. This year, we have added an Alcohol Symposium, NAFLD (nonalcoholic fatty liver disease) Update, and two mini-symposia focusing on cell-cell crosstalk within the liver and hepatocellular carcinoma. In addition to our popular NIH Corner, we are partnering with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to provide a CDC Corner, which will address a number of important national and global issues in regards to the prevention and treatment of viral hepatitis. The rationale and potential mechanisms for implementing a national screening program for viral hepatitis will be discussed. Our sister society, the International Association for the Study of the Liver (IASL), will hold its 50th Anniversary Meeting in conjunction with The Liver Meeting® 2008. Their program begins on page 31 and will include a Postgraduate Course on October 31, “Liver Disease — A Global Challenge”. AASLD is also collaborating with the National Cancer Institute (NCI), International Liver Transplantation Society (ILTS), American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE), and the North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (NASPGHAN) to provide specialized programming. The Best of The Liver Meeting®, a collection of slides and audio files from the meeting, will be offered again this year to enhance your on-site experience. You’ll be able to view presentations again from your favorite sessions or from those you missed. The Best of The Liver Meeting® 2008 will be available at www.aasld.org after the meeting.
