The community of New Orleans has been working for over two years to rebuild our city! Now we’re ready to begin REVIVING it! The Rebirth of New Orleans will be extraordinary. We’ve survived two disastrous hurricanes, the War of 1812, the Civil War, and 27 yellow fever epidemics! New Orleans is a way of life. It’s the fantastic cultural collage that spawned Creole cooking, the root of all modern music in Jazz, and the world’s biggest Mardi Gras. We are the epicenter of celebrations and the synonym of U.S. hospitality. In that vein, we have been extraordinarily blessed with an outpouring of assistance from the business arena. Community service projects have been added to many conventions, and for that we are most grateful. To be a part of the recovery of this city is so important and New Orleans wouldn’t be here today without the hearts and the hard work of groups like NAIS. Second Harvest Food Bank aids in acquiring and distributing food in partnership with organizations serving people in need. Every volunteer can pack $102 worth of food for redistribution in a single hour… and that’s where NAIS comes into play. Second Harvest is celebrating its 25th year of service to the community! New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity, built eight or 10 houses a year before Hurricane Katrina. Today, it’s 10 times that number under construction. Volunteers do most of the heavy lifting, from framing to the final paint job. Professional subcontractors install wiring, plumbing, and the like. The volunteers are supervised by trained crew leaders.
