Bridal F antasies C oming True As happened with me, Ally Sweeney’s rst visions of the Don CeSar inspired fantasies of love and marriage. “I grew up in Florida and was always impressed with it ever since I was a little girl,” says Ally. “It just stands out!” So when the time came in 2010 to select a venue for her wedding to beau Jeremy, The Don immediately came to mind, even though the couple was living in Denver, Colorado, at the time. “We knew we wanted to be married on the beach, and we loved the historic aspect of it,” Ally recalls. “I de nitely fell in love with it when I went inside for the rst time.” One of more than 400 weddings the resort hosts each year, the Sweeneys’ took place on the beach at sunset on May 1, 2010. Ally and her entourage of six bridesmaids strolled barefoot, despite their traditional formal wear, down a ower petal-strewn path through 140 family members and friends seated on both sides. A formal sit-down dinner reception followed in the King Charles Ballroom on The Don’s fth oor. “Everything in the ballroom was so beautiful, the way they set everything up—the dance oor, the windows,” says Ally. “Walking into the ballroom was de nitely a highlight. And the food was just amazing!” Ally credits The Don’s wedding planning staff for making it a smooth, stress-free day. That and treatments at Spa Oceana, including a massage, hair styling, and one other. “I didn’t want to risk sitting in the sun and getting a sunburn,” says Ally, who spent four days surrounding the event at the resort. “So I also had the Sea Bronzer treatment the day before the wedding, which gave me this nice glowy, dewy tan look.” She remembers the staff bringing part of the wedding cake and champagne to their bridal suite after the festivities, and how special that felt. “They did a really good job of making me feel like I was the only bride, even though it was like prime wedding season, and three were getting married that day. That’s really important: I never saw another bride or wedding going on that day.” SUMMER/FALL 2011 37
