restaurant manager Rae Bianco presides over the room, greeting all the guests by name, and some with a hug. Vivacious, petite, with a smooth auburn bob and a black pants suit dressed up with multiple lengths of pearls, Bianco has orchestrated the power breakfast seating dynamics for the past 15 years. “Every day it’s a different makeup,” Bianco explains. “I have to look and see who is coming in, and make a quick decision as to who goes where.” Since guests are often talking business, it’s important not to seat competitors next to one another, she explains. Without a reservation, you can have breakfast in the Library, an elegant adjoining area to the main room of the restaurant. DURING THE COURSE OF THE MORNING, the main dining room in at 9 or 9:30 for breakfast,” he says. “Remember, it’s 6 a.m. back home.” Things start winding down by around 9:30. The Blackberries come back on, then e-mails and schedules are quickly checked. It’s hard to say, but the Regency has been the setting for life-changing deals ever since leaders pulled New York back from the brink. And after watching the players in play this morning, I can’t help but think that today’s power breakfast at the Regency can often lead to tomorrow’s headline. summer/fall 2011 sees a number of different industries come through the doors.
