U.S. shoemakers Skechers and Steve Madden have
operations in the area. Leon produces tens of millions of shoes,

chemical, plastics and auto manufacturing.

Confederation of the Footwear Industry (CEC) to choose Leon for
its 5th World Footwear Congress November 2014. More than 600
leaders from the world's footwear associations, manufacturers,
suppliers, retailers and policymakers will attend. The gathering
convenes at Poliforum Leon, one of Mexico's largest convention and
exhibit facilities and home to many world class leather goods shows.
Twice a year, Poliforum Leon hosts the Sapica Shoe Fair,
the largest shoe industry gathering in Mexico and one of the
largest in the world. Manufacturers, buyers, industry leaders,
consultants and designers come together to take note of market
trends and business opportunities. It also hosts ANPIC, the annual
international leather goods suppliers' trade show, featuring the
latest materials and technology.
Clients can predict design trends and get fresh ideas simply
by shopping in Leon. More than 4,500 stores specialize in shoes
and leatherwear. Malls such as the huge Plaza de Zapato carry
