in early 2018. The new 58-story tower will
include an 85-suite hotel with a rooftop pool
and its own Turkish hamman in the spa.
Also new this year is the 96-room Kimpton
Hotel Palomar South Beach, and the
363-room Confidante Miami Beach has
completed a $3.5 million renovation of
its event space. This hotel has 10,000 sf
of meeting space, including the 2,000-sf
Opening next year is the Marriott
Marquis Miami Worldcenter, which will
have 1,700 rooms and more than 600,000
sf of meeting space, including a 65,000-sf
grand ballroom and a 1,500-seat theater.
FORT LAUDERDALE &

& Visitors Bureau, is excited about the
possible expansion of the Broward County
Convention Center that will add an
additional 400,000 sf of meeting space and
an attached 800-room hotel.
"The proposed on-site hotel will allow
us to meet the needs of the meeting, event
and association planners and attendees of
the future," she says.
There's plenty more to get excited
about in the meantime. The Conrad Fort
Lauderdale Beach opened this past
October with 290 suites, four al fresco dining
experiences, an elevated pool deck facing
the ocean and 20,000 sf of flexible meeting
and event space. The historic Escape Hotel
is under renovation and will be transformed
into the 96-room Gale Boutique Hotel
when it opens later this year. Also opening
this year is a new 23-story Four Seasons
with 150 rooms and meeting space, and a
dual-branded Starwood Hotel including two
hotels: The Dalmar from the Starwood Tribute
Portfolio (209 rooms) and The Element by
Westin (114 rooms), as well as meeting space.
The 349-room Margaritaville
Hollywood Beach Resort celebrated its
second anniversary this past November,
adding a new "Scavenger Hunt Challenge"
team building exercise to the mix where
groups search throughout the resort to find
the lyrics to various Jimmy Buffett songs.
Outside the hotel scene, escape
rooms are trending big for team
building and Xtreme Action Park in
Fort Lauderdale has added three to its
repertoire, all of which are available for
buyouts of up to 10 players. In these live
adventure games, attendees must solve a
series of riddles to safely escape the room.
