A retro and highly experiential retreat in North Hollywood
[ON LOCATION] LAUREL HERMAN
ust a stone's throw from Universal Studios Hollywood
and a few miles from downtown Los Angeles, a 257-room
boutique hotel with a retro-chic bohemian design opens its
arms to groups with more 20,000 sf of indoor and outdoor
meeting and event space.
We loved the vibe of The Garland, which is more of a
"campus-style sanctuary spread over seven acres in the heart of
North Hollywood," as Larry Jones, director of sales, describes it. A
recent $20 million renovation refreshed the hotel's guest rooms,
lobby and meeting space, including the 130-seat private Beverly
Garland Theatre and other breakout rooms for groups of 10 to
250. The sophisticated '70s-inspired lobby and lobby bar are warm
and cozy with a fireplace soothing color palette. The hotel includes
many items without additional fees such as a personal trainer, yoga,
dive-in pool movies and wine tastings. Ideal non-peak room nights
during season are 100 to 150; peak season (Memorial Day through
Labor Day) is 75.

with breakfast followed by a guided walk with fun Hollywood facts
and landmarks such as the original "Brady Bunch" house, "Vintage
Variety" with classic retro candies, soda pop and Atari games, and
"Healthy Happening," where groups build their own trail mix and sip
on antioxidant smoothies.
Team building opportunities have a creative edge at the hotel
because of its proximity to the NoHo Arts District, home to 20
live performance theatres, dance, art and recording businesses.
Working with local Hollywood professionals, the hotel can arrange
acting, dancing and improvisation workshops for groups that need
to work on communication and problem solving.
THE SECRET GARDEN
One of the standouts of The Garland is Beverly Park, offering 4,000
sf of picturesque outdoor event space with towering sycamore
trees and lush landscaping. It's beautifully suited for cocktail
receptions and seated events under the stars. The Beverly Garland
Theatre is perfect for presentations or private movie screenings.
CREATIVE & FUN
The Garland has hosted meetings for groups within the
entertainment, medical, fashion and tech industries. "A unique
selling proposition at our property is our breaks and team building,"
Jones says. Break choices include "Rise and Shine," which begins

THE FRONT YARD
The Garland's signature restaurant is another area where groups can
gather for receptions. Offering both indoor and outdoor space, the
creative menu reflects the LA food scene. We loved the caramelized
brussels sprouts, braised short rib and chorizo and burrata
flatbreads. Signature cocktails were very well done, from the "cranky
j" to the "cucumber press" with a nice selection of beers and wines
as well. Reservations for up to 20 attendees can be booked at the
main restaurant or outside; the private dining room seats up to 20.
