CheckOut Traditional Korean tea ceremonies in the Gyeongwonjae Ambassador Hotel's Madang gardens offer authentic flavor Tea ceremonies, known as darye, have been practiced in South Korea for over 1000 years and are performed for a variety of different purposes, from welcoming a foreign visitor to celebrating a special event or simply as a peaceful meditation. At the newly opened Gyeongwonjae Ambassador Hotel, situated in the Songdo International Business District, groups can experience the relaxation and harmony of a tea service at one of the hotel's five Madang gardens. The artful ceremony can be combined with a classic Korean play viewing, which are also performed in the gardens. The hotel was designed as a traditional wooden Korean "hanok" 30-room guesthouse, featuring an ondol, or under-floor, heating system. Room options include traditional floor-level bedding, private garden or terrace. Groups can enjoy fresh Korean food served on earthenware dishes at the restaurant Sura, or admire the scenic views from the Dahyang lounge which serves drinks and snacks. The on-site GyeongWonRu meeting facility was built in the architectural style of the Goryo Dynasty, featuring large scale pillars and wooden roofs and 4,348 sf of flexible event space, the largest space being the 1,460 sf Grand Ballroom, accommodating 250 for banquets and 400 for presentations. The garden areas can also host events for up to 500, with larger events hosted at the state-of-the-art Convensia Convention Center, a 12-minute walk from the hotel and the first LEED-Certified convention center in Asia. Activities for Songdo groups include taking a water taxi through the natural oasis of Central Park, learning about the ancient history of Incheon at the Compact Smart City exhibition center, or learning to cook traditional food and perform ceremonial rituals at the Daryewon building in nearby Michuhol Park. songdoibd.com 50 | prevue magazine http://www.songdoibd.com
