its high-end, down-home cooking, says Kristin Delahunt, director
of convention services for the Atlantic Convention & Visitors
Bureau. "As traditional as we are, we are also adventurous eaters.
I think this underscores the palpable pride that Southerners feel in
their region, but also curiosity and appreciation for the city."
Both tradition and adventure come into focus during the
city's 20 annual food festivals-from the Atlanta Food & Wine
Festival, serving up traditional dishes of the South, to the Attack
of the Killer Tomato or Atlanta Street Food festivals. A "dining
at friend's house" vibe is also quinessentially Atlanta. The Gunshow
restaurant combines a la carte Brazilian churrascaria-style dining
and Chinese dim sum in an industrial-meets-backyard BBQ
atmosphere. "A team of chefs each add their own signature dish
to the daily menu, cook it in an open kitchen setting and personally
serve it to each table," Delahunt explains. "It's best to go as a group
so attendees can share in tasting the variety."
Elsewhere in Atlanta, cocktails and receptions are trendiing
at the Center for Puppetry Arts' 5,000 sf of meeting space,
which includes the largest collection of Jim Henson's art in the
newly opened Worlds of Puppetry Museum. Groups can also
learn puppetry and view performances. Atlanta's hotels also
offer their own brand of adventure. The Sun Dial Restaurant,
Bar & View (available for buyout) at the newly renovated 1,073room Westin Peachtree Plaza Atlanta spans three floors,
offering an upscale networking space with 360-degree views

of the city. Groups of around 750, with additional semi-private
dining available for up to 50, can mix, mingle and munch here
on traditional Atlanta cuisine. The hotel's intimate but striking
Overlook meeting space is also worth a look. Both venues factor
into the hotel's 80,000 sf of meeting space and an additional
560,000 sf is available via connected walkway to AmericasMart
and Southern Exchange at 200 Peachtree. There's also much
ado about the four-star Solis Hotel, Two Porsche Drive by
the Capella Hotel Group, set to debut this fall at the Porsche
Experience Center. The center currently offers a world-class
track for one-on-one instruction, off-roading courses, a driving
simulator center and fine dining. The hotel will offer 214 rooms
and 6,500 sf of event space, including a rooftop lounge with
panoramic views of the Porsche handling course.

EMERALD COAST
Some say eating fish on Florida's Emerald Coast is like tasting
fish for the first time. In fact, the culinary sensibilities of the region
are defined by gulf-to-table dining, "as well as fresh seasonal fare
caught by one of our local captains," states Maureen Morgenthien,
deputy director of sales and marketing for the Emerald Coast
Convention & Visitors Bureau. Morgenthien follows this
up by saying that visiting groups should visit local restaurants
"like Brotula's, Anglers Beachside Grill, or Dewy Destin's
Harborside" to really get a feel for it. Destin and Okaloosa Island's
