invites attendees to take on-property fitness
classes or try hiking the nearby Katy Trail.
Beyond the downtown core in what Visit
Dallas dubs Far North Dallas (Frisco, Plano
and Addison) lies a mixture of residential areas
and entertainment districts with properties
such as the 300-room Westin Stonebriar
Hotel & Golf Club-perfect for groups
looking to meet in 24,000 sf of meeting space
in the morning and golf in the afternoon.
Also in this area is the Beltline Entertainment
District, where groups can nosh on a variety
of cuisines and catch a show at Addison
Improv Comedy Theater and Restaurant.

AUSTIN
Austin's music and art culture is still keeping
the city weird after all these years. A new
influx of hotels is also making it a serious hub
for meetings. The 1,012-room JW Marriott
Austin put Austin on the meetings map a
few years back when it opened two blocks
from the Austin Convention Center as the

second largest JW Marriott in the world. Next
on the docket is the 1,048-room Fairmont
Austin. The new hotel will make Austin that
much more attractive for citywide events,
especially with its Red River Canopy Walk
connecting to the convention center.
Austin has had its fair share of
boutique hotel openings as well; the
171-room Archer Austin opened last year.
Featuring an authentic look that mixes Texas
limestone and wildflowers with creative
soul, the hotel is particularly popular for
its culinary experiences at Second Bar +
Kitchen. A "Flavor Profiling Cooking Class"
with chef David Bull, cooking demonstration
from the restaurant's culinary team or
hands-on cookie experience with the pastry
chef are all available to groups.

AMARILLO
Located in the state's panhandle, Amarillo
has a long history as a Route 66 stop that
continues to attract groups for its value
and authenticity. Not only does it offer the
quintessential cowboy experience, but also
a wide range of cultural art displays and
historic museums, including the PanhandlePlains Historical Museum, the state's
largest history museum. The 200,000-sf
Panhandle-Plains offers behind-the-scenes
tours for groups and event space rentals.
"If you're really looking for a Texas
experience we have quite a few ranches,"
says Kashion Smith, director of tourism for
the Amarillo Convention & Visitor Council.

experiences-we're talking real stuff here."
