Takeaways from the first educational Summit in the industry dedicated
to duty of care

A

group of 30 top planners from organizations ranging
from KPMG to The National Cattlemen's Beef Association
converged at the Hilton Westchester this past May in
Westchester County, New York, for Prevue's Duty of
Care Summit. The average experience in the room was close to 20
years, and it showed in the level of conversation and interaction.
The Summit began with iJET's Joel Straight speaking to the
biggest challenge facing meeting planners: a fundamental lack
of understanding of who is responsible for attendee safety and
security. In a recent survey by iJET and Goldspring Consulting, only
29 percent of meeting planners have stand-alone risk management
programs in place for meetings and events, yet 64 percent of
companies have a formal risk management policy. An exciting new
technology by iJET enables GPS tracking via employee cellphones,
an effective way for organizations to be aware of their employees'
locations but also to alert them when they enter high-risk areas.
Straight was followed by a roster of high-profile speakers,
including former US Secret Service Executive under President
Clinton and current SVP of Executive Protection at T&M Protection
Resources, Joe Russo; Richard Lagg, director of security at
Johnson & Johnson; and Brad Waldron, VP of risk management at
Caesars Entertainment. Waldron brought up another key finding:
the distinction between Duty of Care and Duty of Loyalty, or the
employee's responsibility to act in the best interest of their companies

TOP OF THE RITZ
Attendees enjoyed a fabulous cocktail reception at Kanopi, on
the rooftop of The Ritz-Carlton New York, Westchester, with
360 degree views stretching as far as Long Island Sound and
Manhattan. With several spaces for group rentals and an intriguing
menu for the evening, Kanopi wowed attendees. A special VIP
welcome by newly elected County Executive George Latimer,
whose roots are in the hospitality industry, kicked off the evening.
At the perfume bar by Scenterprises, attendees learned
their scent profile and received a vial of owner Sue Phillips'
signature scent. A bracelet bar by jeweler Diane Katzman topped
off the five-star experience. Katzman customizes the charms and
colors of her beads to suit a meeting's theme and can also create
logoed items. Her bracelet bar was just as popular with the men
as the women.

EXPLORING WESTCHESTER COUNTY
Several meeting planners extended their trip for a one-day tour
of the mansions of Hudson Valley, including the Rockefellers'
Kykuit, where they had a private tour of the five rambling
underground galleries that are home to a diverse collection that
includes unusual Picasso tapestries and Warhol portraits of
Nelson Rockefeller and his wife, Happy. Other stops included the
majestic castle of railroad magnate and robber baron Jay Gould
and Belvedere Estate, a hidden gem of a mansion owned by the
Unification Church that recently began hosting events, including
our luncheon.
