Localized programs that provide both community and personal
impact are high on the agenda for this year's incentive attendees.
And whether a "Jungle Book" experience in India, a local brew in
Salt Lake City or "Big Little Lies" tour in Monterey, the following
destinations sure know how to deliver.

WASHINGTON, DC
A confluence for innovation, art and history, DC woos groups at every
turn with little effort. The U.S. Green Building Council recently bestowed
the accolade of "first LEED Platinum city in the world" on DC for its
commitment to and progress in human and environmental sustainability
in building design. The conversion of a 110-year-old neoclassical
church into The Line, an artful 220-room hotel with dining options
from a James Beard Award-winner chef, is one example of the city's
sustainable yet innovative outlook. A rising $122 million mixed-use
development across from the Walter E. Washington Convention Center
(and its recently opened Morris Cocktail Bar, a bright and dreamy
version of a speakeasy) is another
example that incorporates 15 historic
buildings from the turn of the
last century.
The recent debut of District
Wharf along the Potomac River, and
its parade of waterfront restaurants,
shops, high-end hotels and arts
venues, has given attendees a
bonafide waterfront destination to
explore and meet in-within easy access to the DC Metro. The
mile-long stretch adds locally driven cuisine, a 6,000-seat performing
arts venue, several bookable pier spaces and 690 hotel rooms to
the area with the Hyatt House Washington DC / The Wharf,
InterContinental Washington D.C. - The Wharf, and Canopy
by Hilton Washington DC The Wharf. Groups can also cruise or
paddleboard the Potomac, energize with waterfront or rooftop yoga,
walk to world-class museums on the National Mall and experience
year-round festivals. Close to the Wharf development is Artechouse,
a digital art gallery with space for 400 attendees, or groups can settle
in for a tasting at the District Winery in Capitol Riverfront, the first
winery in the city.
DC is also experiencing an influx of millennial hotels over the
next two years, beginning this year with the first Moxy hotel to hit
the area. Following suit, POD DC's whiskey bar and rooftop bar in
Chinatown will offer another trendy meetings option for millennials,
and the 209-room Eaton Workshop hotel, focusing on social
activism, will house its own radio and podcasting studio and movie
theatre. Next year will see the opening of DC's first Virgin Hotel
near Union Market, and the forthcoming Mob Hotel will offer more
than a few twists and turns for creative attendees.
"In DC, meetings and incentives leave a lasting impact on the

community in many ways," explains Melissa Riley, VP of Convention
Sales and Services for Destination DC. "Many conferences use
breaks as an opportunity to invite attendees to give back to local
communities." The Event Services Professionals Association's CSR
initiative has attendees stuffing care bags for the homeless during
breaks. Riley and her team also regularly connect planners with
Impact 4 Good for customized community givebacks.

MADHYA PRADESH, INDIA
Rudyard Kipling's 19th-century story "The Jungle Book," deep in the
forests of India and its secret society of anthropomorphic tigers, bears
and "man-cub" named Mowgli, has long captivated our imaginations.
The state of Madhya Pradesh in central India wants to keep the story
fresh in our hearts as well with a campaign that showcases some of
the country's most stunning and biodiverse areas to groups. The book
references Madhya Pradesh's city of Seoni repeatedly, and groups
can step right onto the pages during wildlife, heritage and pilgrimage
tours into Mowgli's jungle, Pench National
Park, with sustainable wildlife guides
Pugdundee Safaris. This may end
with a gourmet meal and sleepover in
the trees at Pench Tree Lodge's luxe
treehouses. Pugdundee offers six luxury
accommodations throughout Madhya
Pradesh, and groups can also arrange
a biking adventure to nearby villages
for cultural exchanges, CSR givebacks,
handicraft shopping, and local, open-fire cooking classes in authentic
Indian pots. Kiki Paris, a US rep for Pugdundee, says her group also
"had the fascinating experience of witnessing and participating in a
Diwali celebration conducted by a Hindu priest."
All of the white tigers of the world trace their ancestry to
Bandhavgarh National Park, a place of mythological significance.
Groups can trek through Bandhavgarh with a guide to catch a
glimpse of more than 250 species of birds, 80 species of butterflies,
and the highest density of Royal Bengal tigers in the world. The
2,000-year-old Bandhavgarh Fort, believed to have been gifted
by Lord Rama to his younger brother, draws a regular crowd, while
vegetation-draped statues (like the ancient Shesh Shaiya, a 65-ft
idol of Lord Vishnu) stand guard at temples and river channels.
Groups staying at Bandhavvilas' 20-villa spread can experience
a tiger safari at a reserve that would make Shere Khan proud.
Likewise, the Reni Pani Jungle Lodge's 12 luxury cottages, next
to the Satpura Tiger Reserve, offers cheetal and leopard spotting
via guided jeep, jungle walk and boat tours.

"In DC, meetings and
incentives leave a lasting
impact on the community
in many ways."
