Everything has its season. And when it comes to
orchestrating the high-impact and highly localized
meetings and incentives programs that attendees
crave, this is a very good thing.
This issue explores the changing dynamics of
incentives, and boy are they changing. The tangible
rewards of a job well done are now frequently tagged

with a heartfelt desire to give. You'll find many
examples of this throughout our incentives issue-
from wetland conservation projects in Monterey (see
our cover story, "The Incentives Impact," on page 22)
to hands-on horse rehabilitation interactions in New
Mexico (page 12). One cruise line exec recommends
a Darwin-inspired adventure as this year's top
incentive experience, while another says complete

and utter pampering is the way to go (18).
Along with becoming increasingly good, incentives
are now inching toward getting well. Self-indulgence
is taking a back seat to wellness programs that
incorporate local environments, activities and
traditions, and whether Himalayan salt therapy or a
chocolate and strawberries rubdown in Texas (57),
luging down the mountainside in New Zealand (90),

sipping a local brew on the Daytona Beach Ale
Trail (31) or learning how to incorporate feng shui
into event design at one of our very own Visionary
Summits (there's a great infographic on page 80),
providing attendees with hyperlocal feel-good options

Of course, few things give the proverbial pat on
the back like a VIP red carpet experience. And, few
destinations pull it off like Los Angeles (52) can.
