MGM Grand Stay Well Meetings build health and wellness into the environment [ON LOCATION] STEVE GRASSO M oments before cutting the ribbon to open MGM Grand's Stay Well Meetings and an expanded range of Stay Well rooms, advisory board member Dr. Deepak Chopra quipped that "Las Vegas is the most religious of American cities, because it doesn't pretend to be anything that it is not." The demand for Delos' Stay Well rooms speaks for itself. After launching with 41 rooms in 2012, the concept has now taken over the entire 14th ﬂoor of the building with 171 rooms that are equipped with the company's innovative health offerings. Delos' hotel rooms and meeting spaces incorporate a range of evidence-based technology, developed in partnership with the Cleveland Clinic, and a curated program of break-out sessions designed to stimulate creativity and enhance the productivity of meetings attendees. "Every time I saw the word [sustainability] popping up it was 100 percent focused on the environment," says Delos founder Paul Scialla. "And I thought, can we push that envelope and also focus on the people inside these spaces and actually look for human or biological sustainability as a complement to the green building movement." DESIGNED FOR LIVING All of the Stay Well features are seamlessly built into the stylish interior decor. The superior air quality is unmistakable. Each room is ﬁtted with an advanced HEPA-standard air puriﬁcation system that reduces allergens, toxins and pathogens to create a clean air environment that is apparent as soon as you step through the door. Similar care is given to the water quality, puriﬁed to meet medically established performance-based standards, so that water from the tap is as clear and drinkable as anything that comes in a bottle. The same high quality water is delivered by the invigorating vitamin C-infused shower, which genuinely left me feeling refreshed after my long ﬂight. The lighting options in the rooms are another key feature. Black-out screens on the windows shut out Las Vegas at the touch of a button, and circadian lighting throughout the rooms restores the body to a natural rhythm. An aromatherapy diffuser adds a fresh scent to the atmosphere; room service offers a healthy Stay Well menu devised by leading medical institutions to optimize nutrition; and there is a Stay Well mobile app that provides a guide to the various in-room features. Chopra described the project as "removing the schism between organism and environment, between nature and nurture." According to his research, a signiﬁcant number of diseases are caused by environmental factors, so by improving the quality of our living spaces, we can pre-emptively ﬁght illness and create a healthier society. "Stay Well rooms with Delos is the pioneer," Chopra says. "But it's deﬁnitely a trend and I'm sure that every other real estate industry is going to be looking at this.
