they should sit on the terrace of the new Al Enna Restaurant and
sample a series of Qatari specialties such as harees, a porridge-like
wheat and meat dish that's traditional during Ramadan.
Katara Cultural Village is like a Disneyland version of
traditional Gulf State architecture, with everything from an opera hall
to original eateries and a private beachfront that can be transformed
in any capacity for groups. Arrive to shore via a Venetian-style
gondola, where the Greek-inspired Katara Amphitheatre can seat
groups of up to 5,000. A quick golf cart ride away, the gilded indoor
Katara Hall can host cocktails for parties of up to 2,500, while the
Islamic-designed Opera House, with its stunning star-studded
ceiling, can seat 550 for shows or presentations.
Another modern addition on the Corniche is the I.M. Peidesigned Museum of Islamic Art (the same architect behind the
Louvre Pyramid), home to the largest collection of Islamic art and
artifacts from across the Muslim world. Up to 2,000 can take in views
of Doha's modern skyline over standing cocktails in the sweeping
atrium, while smaller parties of up to 60 looking for Michelin-style
Mediterranean haute cuisine can take a seat in the Philippe Starckdesigned IDAM, Alain Ducasse's first restaurant in the Middle East.
CONTEMPORARY (ART-FILLED) CONVENTION
CENTERS
Gorgeous luxury hotels and celeb chef-led eateries are only the start
when it comes to state-of-the-art meeting facilities in Doha. The
five-year-old Qatar National Conventional Centre (QNCC) was
modeled after the country's symbolic Sidra tree and features the
soaring marble, bronze and stainless steel spider statue, Maman by
Louise Bourgeois, in the lobby. Set on Qatar Foundation's 2,500-acre
campus, QNCC has capacity for up to 10,000.
The new Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC),
which opened last fall in the business hub of West Bay, is even
more impressive. Spanning over 500,000 sf, DECC can be divided
into five pillar-free halls, with the signature geometric, Tony Smithcreated Smoke sculpture out front. Each of the 18 meeting rooms
is equipped with $150,000 worth of audio visual technology, while
the four meeting room suites overlook the halls from floor-to-ceiling
windows with luxe leather sofas that seem more suitable for a snazzy
airport lounge than convention center.

For a casual, Arabic-inspired evening, bring out the Shisha pipes and light
bites like traditional mezze at the lobby-level outdoor Al Jalsa Garden.
