The new Autograph Collection property ups the ante on luxury

High-end has come to Key Largo," says Mark
Calibo, Playa Largo Resort & Spa's director of
sales and marketing, over lunch. The new 144room Key Largo property opened its doors late
last year in the Florida Keys, and has been offering
groups 40,000 sf of meeting space and a top-notch experience
Whether relaxing in a cozy hammock by the ocean or
partaking in watersports like paddleboarding, kayaking, parasailing,
fishing and sailing, on-site experiences abound. The Ocean Spa
offers plenty of treatments to choose from, all with a take-home gift
(ours was a pouch of small stones to re-create the state of Zen we
found with the Key Largo Signature Massage, its hot stones and
tropical-scented oils). We also recommend the "Sunset Sail with
a Champagne Toast" and the "Eco-tour," the latter of which takes
groups on a Zodiac boat tour from Playa Largo to the Everglades to
explore the national park's wildlife and fauna.
For those who want to pack as much into their stay as they
can, Calibo suggests a day trip to Key West, which is about
a two-hour drive, or Miami, about an hour away. "There are
scheduled pick-ups with Keys Shuttle, or we give attendees
recommendations of where to go or what to see if they have a
rental car. These are customized at our concierge desk and can
include a picnic basket or soft cooler of beverages."

PRIVATE EVENTS & COCKTAILS
The on-site Beach House comes with its own private pool and
direct beach access-perfect for small group events or private
cocktails. One of our favorite spots in the lobby for up to 36
attendees is the hip Las Olas Ceviche Bar, a prime spot for
cocktails due to its variety of sushi- and ceviche-inspired tapas;
it's open until 1 a.m. In addition, restaurants and public spaces on
property such as La Marea, the ballroom, Sunset Terrace off the
lobby and Sol by the Sea can be rented out for private events.
Playa Largo Resort can customize a variety of activities
for groups to enjoy such as a ceviche-making lesson with Chef
Mauricio, a mixology class, and s'mores by the beachside fire pits.
Groups can also choose from team building options such as the
"Team Ship Wreck," where they work to build their own boat out
of PVC pipes and inner tubes. They'll also have to answer trivia
questions in order to earn money to buy materials to construct
their rafts. Once the ships are constructed, teams race against
their colleagues to see who can get to the buoy and back to
land the quickest.
Another popular activity offered for groups is "Build Your Own
Shelter," where teams use cardboard, straw and bamboo arbors to
construct a lean-to on the event lawn.
