was once home to a Swedish prince.
From Eze, it's a quick drive to another
spot known for royalty: the principality of
Monaco. While Monaco measures a little
over one square mile, it's chock-full of
James Bond-worthy casinos, Michelinstarred restaurants and some of the
most glamorous hotels along the coast,
such as Hotel Metropole and the
150-year-old Hotel de Paris MonteCarlo, set to reopen late-2018 after a
4-year renovation.
Wine & dine
The "world wine capital" of BordEaux is
another place prime for chateaux-hopping.
The World Heritage site in southwestern
France sits at the mouth of some of the
most famous vineyards on the globe and
produces more wine than any other region
in the country. Every two years, the largest
gathering of Bordeaux wine connoisseurs
descends upon the city for the Bordeaux
Wine Festival. If your trip doesn't happen
to fall on these dates, get acquainted with
the region's wine another way: at the newly
opened La Cite du Vin, a 10-story cultural
center that's the only one in the world
devoted to wine (think of it as the Disney
World of wine). Travelers can also sip their
way through the region's wine at the 18th
century building housing the chic Le Bar

a Vin or with a tasting class at the Max
Bordeaux Wine Gallery, where you can
work your way through 48 Grands Vins of
Bordeaux. On the Place Saint-Christoly,
the 97-room Mama Shelter Bordeaux
is a trendy spot to call it a night, with a
rooftop showing off panoramic views over
the historic city center and a restaurant
helmed by Michelin-starred French chef,
Guy Savoy.
Where tWo rivers meet
While Nice is a major Mediterranean
cruise hub, Lyon-a high-speed train
ride away-sits at the confluence of the
Rhone and Saone and is known to attract
ships of the small-scale river variety. Paris
may be the city of love and romance,
but it's hard not to fall head over heels
while strolling along Lyon's 2,000-yearold streets, lined with over 200 sites that
illuminate come nightfall. Every evening,
the city shows films in the old Lumiere
factory, the birthplace of cinematography,
and in October, the city plays host to the
Lumiere Festival, presenting 155 films
across 60 venues. Lyon is also known for
its annual Fete des Lumieres, or Festival of
Lights, each December, with over 70 light
installations illuminating the city's streets
and squares during the 3-night event. You
don't need to be in Bordeaux to sleep in
wine country, either. The 13th century, fivestar Chateau de Bagnols sits amongst
the vines in Beaujolais, just a 30-minute

traditional French cuisine, head
to Bouillon Chartier. They seat
you and your party at the nearest
accommodating place either by
yourselves or delightfully next to
strangers. It is a fun experience
dining in the company of locals or
other visitors. While the food itself
isn't the stand out, the ambiance,
experience and the prices are to
die for.
> For those who enjoy coastal
views, take day trips out of Nice
to any one of the several coastal
towns to give yourself delightful
views of the Mediterranean from
anywhere-Eze, Antibes, and even
Monaco. If you feel like hanging
out on the French coast, but eating
Italian cuisine, hop on the 40-minute
train ride towards Menton, the
last French city before the Italian
border. Find yourself in food heaven
as you find a fine fusion between
the French cuisine and the Italian
influences due to proximity.
> For those who enjoy the thrill of
the roads, take a trip inland from
Nice towards Grasse and the
Provence region during lavender
season, which is in full swing in July.
Once you get to the countryside,
which is about 2-3 hours away,
step out of your car and enjoy the
rolling hills of purple and the calming
fragrance of lavender in the air all
around you.
