Recommend a walking tour of La Candelaria neighborhood; visit the Fernando Botero Museum and the famous Gold Museum. End the day with a teleferico ride up Monserrate. Day 3 - Bogota: Spend the day away from Bogota, visiting the Andalusian-style town of Guatavita, and Lake Guatavita, site of the legend of El Dorado; and visit the underground Salt Cathedral of Zipaquira. Day 4 - Medellin: Transfer to the airport for a short flight to Medellin, capital of Antioquia and often called the "City of Eternal Spring. An " afternoon city tour includes the Metropolitan Cathedral, Pueblito Paisa (a replica of a typical Antioquian village), Plaza Botero, the Antioquiana Museum, and the Botanical Garden. Day 5 - Medellin: Take a full-day excursion to visit the charming colonial towns near Medellin, the largest being Rio Negro with its impressive cathedral and small museum of religious art. Drive through the countryside, dotted with haciendas and fincas, to Tequendama Waterfalls and visit the Fizebad orchid farm. Day 6 - Cartagena: Transfer to the airport for a flight to the Caribbean city of Cartagena de Indias. Spend the afternoon getting acquainted with the Old City, on foot or by horse and carriage. Day 7 - Cartagena: A morning tour of Cartagena includes the fortifications at San Felipe, the Inquisition Palace and San Pedro Claver Church. In the afternoon, explore Las Bovedas in the Old City, do some shopping, take a walk on the fortified walls, relax by a pool or on the beach, or have a sundown cocktail in a bar with a sunset view. Day 8 - Cartagena: Spend the day out in the Caribbean on one of the 27 Rosario Islands, a 45-minute trip by speedboat. Enjoy beach time, the calm waters and lunch. Active options include snorkeling, a panoramic tour of some of the other islands, and an aquarium visit on one island. Day 9 - Cartagena-USA: Transfer to the airport for home-bound flight. On a town tour, visit the Luis Acuña Museum, showcasing the works of a major 20th century Colombian artist, and the Fossil Museum. Day 4 - Villa de Leyva-Bogota: In the morning, enjoy the excellent handicraft shops of Villa de Leyva, before making a leisurely return to Bogota, visiting en-route Raquira, home to local artisans producing the finest earthenware pottery, and the underground Salt Cathedral at Zipaquira. Day 5 - Bogota-Armenia: Morning transfer to the airport for the flight to Armenia in the heart of the country's coffee-growing region, where it is recommended visitors stay a couple of nights in a hacienda. In the afternoon, visit some of the highlights of the Coffee National Park, learning about the history of coffee, and also stop in at the Quimbaya Museum, displaying important pre-Hispanic artifacts. Day 6 - Armenia: Today, visit Recuca, a coffee plantation for a roundup of the "bean" from planting and harvesting to roasting and tasting. Continue to beautiful, tiny Salento, with its multicolored houses and fine craft shops, and to the Cocora Valley, home to forests of the national tree of Colombia, the Palma de Cera (wax palm). Come here for hiking, birdwatching and horseback riding. Day 7 - Armenia-Bogota-Cartagena: Transfer to the airport for the flight to Bogota and connect with a flight to the Caribbean city of Cartagena de Indias. Spend the afternoon getting acquainted with the Old City on foot or by horse and carriage.
