ear-round warmth and sunshine complemented
by top-notch facilities ensure that anyone can
get in the game, whether you're a spectator or
participant.
Sarasota is set to make a big splash in the world of
competitive rowing, as Nathan Benderson Park -
already acclaimed as a premier rowing and aquatic
sports center - unveils a new world-class rowing course
in 2014, the only Class A permanent 2000-meter
World Class Sprint Course in North America sanctioned
by FISA, the Swiss-based International Federation of
Rowing Associations.
With this international-standard rowing course in place,
Sarasota-Bradenton will host the 2017 World Rowing
Championships while continuing to welcome such
prestigious events as the International Breast Cancer

For the first time in more than 30 years, the
World Rowing Championships will be held
in the United States. The Championships
are expected to attract more than 2,000
Olympic-caliber athletes from more than 70

Get a jump on baseball season at the Sarasota stop on
Florida's Grapefruit League of Spring Training sites - the
newly renovated Ed Smith Stadium, home of Baltimore
Orioles Spring Training and known as "Birdland South."
From the "boys of summer" to the "game of kings," the
Sarasota Polo Club at Lakewood Ranch hosts thrilling
polo matches every Sunday afternoon during the season
(roughly mid-December to early April).
Equestrian excitement is also waiting in Venice, where
Fox Lea Farm offers a variety of equestrian events,
including annual horse shows, dressage events and
prestigious grand prix events.
Going from four legs to two wheels, Sarasota County
BMX is the oldest continuously running BMX track in
the nation, and a favorite spot for bicycle racers from
around the country.
Meanwhile, athletic endeavors of every kind are
showcased at major sports centers around the region,
including the Premier Sports Campus at Lakewood
Ranch, hosting nightly soccer, lacrosse, rugby
and football, as well as national and international
competitions such as the Nike International Friendlies
Soccer tournament.
The 450-acre IMG Academy in Bradenton specializes
in training student athletes from around the world in
